Straight pay pickup is already limited

It's funny that you think green slips increase QOL/pay for a majority of the pilot group when it's really a small minority that benefit from green slips in most categories. Plus it costs the company more in payroll which decreases profits which decreases profit sharing for EVERY pilot come February. Pilots are the biggest bunch of delusional self serving people in the world.

Oh come on. Pilots aren't more deluded or more self serving than anyone else. Have you been around college students? flight attendants? educators? union leadership? politicians? Hare Krishna? Krishna Krishna? Hare? Rock Stars? Drug addicts? Addicted Rock Stars? Yada Yada Yada...

The world, broad brush speaking, is self serving. Pilots are no different in that respect than anyone in your neighborhood. Self loathing isn't very becoming.

Greenies cost the company far less than adding additional staffing to cover that flying.

To a extent. There is a crossover point where it's better to add pilots. There are issues beyond straight cost. The company has increased staffing in some categories as a result.

Ok, my eyes aren't so good. Where did I say GS increase QOL/pay for the majority of the pilot group? But thanks for putting words into my mouth.

But even if I had said that, what an interesting and dumb take you have. Your math is wrong. Total compensation to the pilot group at large is more when pilots earn that money up-front, not when the entire group earns 20% from profit sharing and the company gets 80%.

Green slips seem like easy money. My advice to new guys is to never cancel plans with your family to fly a green slip. This job is hard enough on family as is. Family needs to come first on off-days. I have heard pilots talking about skipping trick-or-treating with their little kids because that experience isn't worth the $8,000 the green slip pays. That's a terrible mindset to get into. Another one I've heard is the $6,000 beer that the pilot just drank making them unable to accept a GS with an immediate report time.

By that logic we should all take a 50% pay cut.
It'll be awesome!
Our profit sharing check would be HUGE!

Oh. Wait. Maybe not.

Not only would I accept an $8,000 GS instead of trick of treating with my kids, my wife would be the first one packing my bags.

Now Xmas, Graduation, Birthdays etc might be a different story
