When deadheading, do we get priority for an upgrade to Econ comfort? Gate agent was no happy fun time despite my money making smile. Thanks

You get priority over all non revs if you check in properly. You must list yourself for upgrades and there are several options. You can list for first or a economy comfort upgrade or both. You can further request upgrade to EC only if it's a window or aisle.

Or... he has no control and bid NYC because the trips are terrible and he commutes anyway. With no contractual authority, what can he do to change the trips?

I'll bet he's back in MSP when his seniority gets closer to what he had on the 320. As for domicile, we all know bidding in and out of the other bases NEVER happens or happened, right? ALPAs representational structure is a joke. CVG gets 2 reps while ATL gets 4, FO reps allowed to remain in office as CA. No provision for seniority or god forbid living outside the 8 cities we have bases. (for now at least) Yup bringing his announcement letter into this is right on topic.

Patience folks. I'd personally rather ALPA advocate for bid reruns on ATL M88 and it take to the end of the window than to get an early bid release that's worse than it needed to be.

It has nothing to do with "we'll just post tomorrow." Take a look at ATL M88 for September. 94% (!) of the trips are 4 or 5-day trips. You can blame the company for that one. In fact there are nearly as many 5-day trips as 1,2, and 3 day trips combined--all in a category that did not have five day domestic trips at all prior to the merger.

That makes things really tough when trying to come up with a solution for the category. You should thank ALPA for refusing to just blindly endorse the company's first effort. It is bad enough that the company just lets the software create such a bizarre trip mix (they've done it a lot on the 717 as well). If ALPA just said "ok, this bid run looks good to us" my guess is that the overall results would be unacceptable.

As pilots we all want our bid results asap. However so long as the results are posted by the deadline, a little extra oversight in these type of instances is a good thing.

The topic is trip mix in MSP, and the RCC. The RCC works for our reps here in MSP, and one of our MSP reps flies out of NYC.

I'm pointing out that your gripes about trip mix in MSP might not resonate fully with someone who doesn't fly out of our base, but "represents" us. Call it the Third Variable in your search for cause-and-effect.

You want shorter trips. The RCC has some influence on that goal. What's your rep telling them?

The RCC was established because the company told the MEC they'd either eliminate or continue 5 day rotations if the MEC gave them a preference. Rather than make a gutsy political call on that issue, the MEC set up the RCC to do the heavy lifting. I remember the Capt rep at the time (B.E.) stumbling over his explanation of it at an LEC meeting, and the FO rep (R.H.) jumping in to make it clear - the company would do what the RCC told them on 5 day trips.

A year (or so) later, an RCC guy came to the MSP LEC meeting and told us there was "no consensus" on trip lengths in MSP.

That's sort of been my impression, based upon nothing more scientific than crew bus and crew lounge chatter.

As long as his personal priorities come first.

Name the last MSP rep who didn't fly out of MSP during his term. When Gradwohl bid NYC and got it, he resigned as a MSP rep.

Is flying out of your representational base one of the parts you don't like?

They can send most of those to the NYC 717 (in exchange for our day trips) and a lot of people would be happy -- but that's not the goal.

To pile on...
I'm in the top half of the list for 88B in ATL. With the cluster F of a bid package, I'm back to working over a weekend!
The humanity. ;)
But seriously, this is why I'm leaving the category. Crap plane, crap trips.

Cue the "bye Felicia" memes
