How does it work if you have Qualification Training in a month with vacation? I’m scheduled for the highly desirable February vacation and it looks like I may be going to my new plane then too.

I read the PWA but couldn’t find an answer.

The way I understand it:
When you filled out the AE form way back in May of 17, it asked if you were willing to move your vacation for training or not. If you said yes, then they will schedule your training and move your vacation, if no, they will schedule your training around your vacation, but not pay protect if someone junior to you is trained first.
Seems like forever since we filled out the AE forms back in May of 17.

Anyone smart on staffing:
Why is the Lax Jan ALV so low at 76, yet the entire month is black? reserves available is the worst I’ve seen it and it looks like we are going to get hosed. I may be missing something, but even summer has days in the blue

Payback day question - who do I call about holding onto them instead of letting them convert to vaca days? Scheds? Vaca planning?

ALV's are set by equipment not base. The company would like to be able to set ALV's by base and equipment but contractually it's not allowed. In addition the ALV has to average 79 hours for the year. They probably ran the category you are in at a high ALV through the summer. 76 is a high winter ALV. Probably as high as they could contractually set it.

If you don't use them they convert automatically to vacation days. You don't have a option. You can ask that they be manually used between 1 JAN and 31 MAR by crew scheds for a specific trip or reserve day drop. After 1 APR they are vacation period.

What is a pilot's obligation for landing currency? I need one before early January but will soon be going out on vacation and reserve has treated me well lately. I've already filled out the days of availability form on iCrew. Am I required to submit yellow slips? Is it frowned upon to sit back and relax on reserve and simply wait for a sim session to be scheduled? Just trying to understand the process and expectations. Thanks.

Just sit back and wait for them to schedule a sim session. You're done what's required.

Be aware that a sim session for currency is no longer 20 minutes in the sim getting 3 bounces. You are required to run through basically every approach your fleet is authorized and can't be released to the line unless proficient. If your currency has actually expired you are required to complete even more items including non normals. You can view the requirements in the DIG for your fleet.
