Sorry if this is a repost:

https://thepointsguy.com/news/delta-air-lines-cancelling-hundreds-of-flights-over-thanksgiving-holiday/amp/

"The analyst told TPG, Delta may be dealing with a so-called “Blue flu,” where some pilots called in sick or refused to volunteer for flights because of potential job cuts and/or reductions in pay. The analyst said there may have been issues of misalignment with crewing and scheduling, and some unrealistic expectations about how many flight attendants and pilots might volunteer to work additional days during the Thanksgiving week"

Blue flu? Is this some form of protest? Wild accusation against the character of the pilots. Is it crazy if this is true or is it just normal labor guerilla warfare.

Me thinks you're stirring the pot! It's just an analyst offering different guesses. No, there's no labor action, just a lot of expired crews that are poorly tracked combined with poor planning.

iCrew will show expired right on your schedule but unless the magic code is also on there, you're not flagged in their system. DBMS strikes again. I wonder if they're ready to upgrade to modern scheduling software now...HAHAHAHA!! :(

I'm curious if many pilots are on NFLY due to COVID contact tracing and perhaps that was part of the issue. Not just on NFLY, but how many are outright sick with the spike in cases.

I would think if that is the case AA and UA would be effected by that also. But first paragraph of the article states, “So far on Thanksgiving day Delta has cancelled 259 flights, or 18% of its schedule. By comparison, American Airlines has cancelled 5 flights and United has cancelled 7.”

That is a good point. Unless, the DL contract tracing and mandatory grounding of identified crewmembers is more conservative than the others are using? I have no idea what mandates the others are using. If the blocked middle seat piece is an indicator, DL seems to be more conservative. Just a thought.

I don't think that's why. Next month is going to be the same thing. If you look at open time there is tons around Christmas and New Year's. They're trying to do too much flying with too few qualified pilots.

I see lots of G in various categories for the last couple of days...but I don't see codes for GSWC and can't ascertain from the help button (unless I'm missing it) what that would be. Surely GSWC would be kicking the can down the road and is a glove save for bigger problems, but did the company go cheap on us and choose to cancel Thanksgiving travelers over paying up for GSWC? It seems like they could have gone more "all in" to "wow" these newly-returning travelers on the most critical opportunity since COVID hit (IMHO).

I think the i crew code is “C” for conflict. Not sure if it differentiates between GSWC and IAWC
