So two weeks in a row I've been assigned a RES trip 2 days out. I called CS and they said it's because of a MED destination in the rotation. They have to give me 2 days notice so I can take the anti-malaria medicine. Both times I already had a YS in because I was first inline for a trip and wanted to have some say in which trip I get. 2 days out is still too early to be assigned a YS so the YS means nothing.
Most of the time I don't get the YSs I ask for because someone else snags the trips first. Now there's another way to not get a YS! Whiny rant over. Hopefully this info helps someone out who is wondering why they got a RES trip 2 days out. |

When you say YS, did you preference individual trips or use the “will-fly YS” that drops your RAW 5 points and acts as a universal assign-me-first preference? If they assign the MED trips 2-days out, they are following the contract. The trip has to be flown by somebody. Sounds like you unfortunately were lowest RAW twice.:( |

Sorry you got the non-preferred trip, but I would rather have more notice to start the malarone (or scramble to get a prescription in time).

All true. I had the lowest RAW score both times and appreciate the MED contract provision's worth. It's just a turn in a MED so I'm not as concerned as if I was doing a 48 hr layover, but again it's good to have.

BTW, never stop complaining. It’s how we know you’re a real pilot. Allow me to gripe: I can’t believe I had to buy shampoo this fall. My kids never knew shampoo outside of hotel bottles! You know it’s bad when you’re out of Hilton/Hyatt/Marriott and dipping into the Wyndham.:D Thanks corona. |

A PAP turn is different than a 48hr in LOS. I can appreciate where you’re coming from in regards to the MED zone and assignment.

RAW score is irrelevant if you are the only person in the days of availability grouping that matches the length of the rotation.

When I was a line holder (I'm 50% in category and getting reserve BTW - not by choice) I would bid avoid any malaria destination. Unfortunately as reserve you don't get a choice. I don't keep malarone on the shelf either. See above line holder comment. I tried frantically to get some malarone on a Friday before my trip. No luck. Heck if I was a junky and needed methadone, I could walk into a local clinic and get it for free no questions 24/7. Try to get Malarone in a day? Two? No dice. Hopefully I put enough deet on me to prevent from getting bitten. Guess I'll find out if that worked soon enough. I am really starting to hate my decision to come to DAL 5 years ago. Should have gone with FedEx. At least there you get better service for going to places that require this crap. Our reserve rules suck. Our union sucks since the ATL surrender mob took over. Been really quiet lately. WTF. Rant over. and hoping I didn't get malaria. |
