Just happened to me. That's why I hate ****ing reserve on the ER. When I was a line holder (I'm 50% in category and getting reserve BTW - not by choice) I would bid avoid any malaria destination. Unfortunately as reserve you don't get a choice. I don't keep malarone on the shelf either. See above line holder comment. I tried frantically to get some malarone on a Friday before my trip. No luck. Heck if I was a junky and needed methadone, I could walk into a local clinic and get it for free no questions 24/7. Try to get Malarone in a day? Two? No dice. Hopefully I put enough deet on me to prevent from getting bitten. Guess I'll find out if that worked soon enough. I am really starting to hate my decision to come to DAL 5 years ago. Should have gone with FedEx. At least there you get better service for going to places that require this crap. Our reserve rules suck. Our union sucks since the ATL surrender mob took over. Been really quiet lately. WTF. Rant over. and hoping I didn't get malaria. Go get some Malorone. Geez. |

I’m uber super senior on the ER. I always carry some Malarone in case of a green slip to Africa, which I normally avoid. It’s really not that difficulty to be a little proactive, since you are on reserve, to get some. Being that you prefer not to get malaria and all that it entails. If you’re going to DSS on a 16 hour layover in the middle of nowhere you’re probably safe since there is no where to go (haven’t seen many parties on the 16 hour layover … but I could be getting ditched too at 9am, lol) and you’re in a desert where it’s the dry season at the moment. Some people just skip the Malone and DEET themselves like crazy.
Go get some Malorone. Geez. err, kompany |

Exactly. Even among major airlines, our reserve is cake. Im sure drum wouldn’t love UAL’s global reserve or AA’s short and long call lines.
I carry an old printed trip sheet in my flight bag to remind me of a 20-leg 3-day with two 8-hour overnights just to keep myself in check. It paid me almost $450! |

We have arguably one of the best jobs in aviation — in the world.
Some people will wake up every morning and curse the sun for being too bright. Personally, I pinch myself everyday — and that’s no lie. |

It is still a good job but every contract it gets a little worse. All the "good deals" have gradually been removed over the years. Now the only good deal is the lca trip buys that apply to FO's, only, and I'm sure they will take that one away too. Lost pensions, pay compared to inflation, vacations touching trips, scope concessions, and sick leave changes are just a few items that have changed over the years.

Even LCA trip buys have been eroded as we are forced to actually show for the trip before being released more and more now.
