If I’ve read it correctly, they are required to get you back to your base in the quickest manner and then restart your next trip after required rest? I’ve heard them trying to deadhead from an outstation from one trip and after rest to another out station to pickup the remainder of the trip. I don’t believe this is legal.

I have never noted them to do that and regardless it would not be legal because it would now be all one trip. In addition depending on the total length of such a trip the 1 for 3.5 could start adding up and the reroute pay would be massive as that would certainly constitute a reroute on the first trip.

Review PWA 12.G.2.Note Three. It's called stitching a rotation and can absolutely happen. It is very, very rare though.

If your current trip or reroute on current trip causes a FAR violation with your next trip, your next trip is subject to 23.K recovery rules. They should recover you to your original rotation in an appropriate fashion.

Any recommendations for hotel for EWR rotation? Thanks

That section would not apply to what he mentions. You have to fly and complete the first rotation and be back at your base. The clause allows you to then fly your next rotation if there is no FAR violation. The two rotations are not combined. The only change is duty pay for the first day of your second rotation.

These were my pre-Covid options…haven’t been back since. EWR:
  • Doubletree ($82)
973-690-5500

Pick up Lvl 2 / Door 2
  • Wyndham Garden ($87)
973-824-4000
  • Hilton Airport ($80)

Witnessed it happen about 6 months ago. Maintenance issue at outstation on a 1 day turn. CS tried to overnight at outstation and then DH the next day to pickup the follow on trip mid way through the first day. Capt said no, not legal, FO just acknowledged and continued.

So they both had the same follow on trip?

No. Each had a different multi day trip starting the day.
