You can certainly do that however if the reserve coverage is positive the trip should not be qualified. It should have just dropped and be regular open time. I would not pick up a Q trip on the expectation you can drop it. The same would probably apply for a swap board pickup.

That makes sense, thanks for the info.

I believe it is yes to all, once it's on your schedule it doesn't matter how it got there.

Another heads up along these lines, if your vacation weeks are useless to you, you can apply as much credit as you want from them to cover dropped trips in any month. You can call scheduling and some of them know how to do it. Otherwise the kosher method is Fight Ops home page and under Popular Tools select Contact Crew Resources.

You'll see VACB on your schedule and however many hours you wanted to use will be in your Time Card. For example, if you had a 25 hour trip and only really wanted to use 9 hours, you'd request 9 hours from the front or back of Primary vacation (or Secondary, etc.) be used to cover B and C days (or whatever days you want to cover the credit of).

BEWARE: Once VACB is on your schedule, you can no longer work that day, just like an actual vacation day.

If you want to maintain flexibility, you can always wait until after those days have passed and go back to add VACB later.

Ref. 23.I.18. it works for all types of drops, QPD,APD,IVD and PD. Do NOT waste vacation bank time on a PB. A PB creates it's own pay and credit at the value of the day(s) replaced. With VACB you are paying yourself from your vacation bank. You get pay AND credit, so you remain with your credit for the GS trigger. Except for the IVD, you retain your days of vacation but then are short in the bank for that month. I use personal bank to cover the short fall when it comes around. This allows you to take paid vacation almost any time. You have to disassociate vacation bank time (pay and credit) with vacation weeks (days) awarded. Some people never understand this but those that do are liberated.

An extreme example is one June a few years back I had a single 9 day international trip worth 55ish hours and a carry in trip worth 21ish hours. I APD-ed a single day during the 9 day and IVD-ed the carry in during the previous month. I ended up with 5 weeks off starting in May and no flying in June. BUT, I used VACB to cover 77ish hours and eventually got a 5 day GS at the end of June. June was a 130ish hour month and I only worked 5 days. The cavoite is that when it came to my subsequent vacation weeks they were unpaid. My requisite January and February months I just WS-ed to get paid. The other vacation week in November I bid reserve and used the full service bank to pay myself.

I should have added if you have a APD day left you could pick up a Q trip and drop it if coverage is at least 25%.

Yeah I too don’t know why more people don’t use the VACB option. It’s a great tool in the right situation.

It’s a great option if you need to meet the greenslip trigger.

...or want a summer vacation when the kids are available. On second thought, anytime you don't get what you want during vacation bids.

Thanks sailing. If I hadn't already used my APD this year (thought I was using it from my previous anniversary year, didn't realize it resets in your hire month instead of after your DOH, should have read the PWA) I'd take advantage of that.

Thanks for that. I took me a few reads to get it, but I finally understand that process. Holy crap that is an amazing way to get a summer vacation if you have the knowledge, foresight, and flexibility to pull that off.

What does "4F1R" mean on a timecard?

Reroute Pay shows 0.

It was a greenslip.

TIA.

4F1R is for a 23 L.4 Note payment. Essentially an intra-rotation reroute that didn’t meet certain parameters.

23 L.8/L.9 “got me back late” reroute pay will be in the “Reroute Pay” line you’re talking about.
