Its bearable if you live in base, but you definitely don't want to commute to reserve under the Delta system because of the shortcall situation. And the lack of trip guarantees for reserves really stinks. Some trips pay a whole lot less for a reserve than a regular guy. So, they don't really give out a lot of long calls? I've heard from some people that they do and others that they are hit and miss. |

The Delta reserve rules are AWFUL!!!! I have now worked 4 days in a row for 12:58 credit and only 3 flying duty periods. Under the former NWA contract, this would have credited me 20 hours. About the only thing better in the Delta contract is the hourly rates and not even by that much. I guess NWA credited me more for my time because the higher guarantee was harder to break. Rant over.

New you're always long call, they give you short call.
Like I mentioned, 4 SCs in a row, 0 credit. But I seriously seriously don't care. I live in base. But when I think about what it'd be like to commute to this I've got to believe its not fun and I hope I can commute to a line if/when I'm given the boot. But I might have also not volunteered for consecutive SCs either which I did for this week. --- A reserve pilot may be placed on short call up to six times in a bid period, prorated for absences known prior to the start of the bid period. A short call period will not exceed 12 hours in a domestic category or 24 hours in an international category. A short call pilot must be promptly available for contact and report to assigned rotation. |

I think we have a fine reserve system - I mean, someone has to sit reserve. I have AA guys in my crashpad who come sit reserve, in the crashpad, 20+ days a month because they don't havea short-call/long-call system. Yes, it's better to be on long call than short call, but it's much easier having the possibility for long call rather than it all being shortcall. |
