Delta sees growing cash balance in 2010 despite $1.1 billion pension obligations

  • By Harry R. Weber, AP Airlines Writer
  • On 8:45 am EST, Tuesday December 15, 2009

The airline said in a presentation filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission Tuesday ahead of an investor conference that it projects it will end 2010 with $5.4 billion in unrestricted liquidity, up from the $5.1 billion it expects to end this year with.
Delta says capacity will be flat in 2010 compared to this year.
Delta, based in Atlanta, is targeting $600 million in new cost savings and productivity enhancements next year.
Ancillary revenue, which includes bag fees and other add-on charges, has been a key source of revenue for airlines.

      Just to help ya out.....

Capacity is seats, block hrs is what we are being told is expanding 5.7%.

Makes a lot of sense since it will be done on smaller jets.

Hopefully these "smaller" jets don't look like 50-76 seaters!

I understand the block hour piece at mainline....hopefully we'll see mainline capacity increase as well vs. trending to smaller jets.

Bastian seems pretty optimistic. Good numbers going forward.

Frankfurt, Germany, December 6 -- A rather bizarre study carried out by German researchers suggests that staring at women's breasts is good for men's health and increases their life expectancy. ...

I am normally the optimistic one, but this conference call last year they stated we would be making over a billion for 2009.

I do think that next year is the start of a string of good years for our company though.

Bastian says down another 70 airplanes in 2010. Mostly RJs. (DC-9s?)

      Despite that, overall capacity flat.
I guess that means a lot more mainline utilization.
