Yes, but if Carl comes on any later then it will be during the Clamp Show, and we all know only Love survives on the Clamp Show.

From our earlier conversation about upgrading the -50s with a new flight deck...

First MD-87 with Universal Avionics’ WAAS-Capable FMS
and Synthetic Vision System

cockpit photo: Universal Avionics -- News

Tucson, AZ – April 29, 2009 – The first installation of Universal Avionics’ WAAS/SBAS-FMS and Vision-1® Synthetic Vision System (SVS) in a McDonnell Douglas MD-87 has been completed with FAA Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) imminent. The project was coordinated by Technical Aero Services of Miami, FL with installation support provided by Avionics Group of Miami, FL.

The MD-87 full cockpit upgrade includes four EFI-640s which replace the ADI, HSI and Radio Altimeter Indicator; dual Vision-1® Synthetic Vision System, dual Application Server Units (ASU) with yoke-mounted Universal Cockpit Display Terminals (UCDT) for JeppView charts, checklists, and E-DOCS; dual UNS-1Fw WAAS/SBAS-FMS; and Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS) with display on the FMS.

According to Avionics Group, this is the first aircraft with the Universal Avionics cockpit upgrade, with several more MD-87 aircraft to follow. With LPV approaches becoming the standard and ILS approaches on the way out, this WAAS FMS system will be the go-to choice for years to come. The addition of the EFIs, Vision-1®, TAWS and ASUs takes a basic non-EFIS DC9/MD80 series aircraft and gives it a modern full compliment cockpit.

“We feel the Universal Avionics products configuration flexibility allows us to custom fit the units into any aircraft and give the customer exactly what they need,” says Thom Kuhns, Project Engineer for Avionics Group. “This project actually consists of 4 individual STCs allowing a customer to select the level of upgrade desired. The result of this installation brings excitement to a cockpit and a project we are proud to be a part of.”

My read on it is that they are trying to figure out which one works best. To be honest, even as a new hire, I got the hang of MGL after the first time through, even without ACARS. It's taken me 4-5 times to figure out how AWABS is supposed to work.

Nu

I agree, I just didn't pay much attention because it was starting down the road of "whining & complaining" and I figure I will just learn whatever they decide we are going to use.

And again for review, here is the guy's full post and the false first sentence in bold...

Hmmm. Shrinking fNWA fleet (-9s, 747-2s, and 757s) and growing fDL fleet (-90s, 737s, 777s). Wonder if there's a message in there somewhere for the other workgroups to speed up the representation issues.

If he wanted to talk about representational issues, it would have been far more impactful to not have false statements. Especially, false statements that are degrading to a former employee group. I thought we were all done with that already.

Carl

You must be a blast to fly with . Where's the false statement? The 757 reference was the fNW 5500 series 757s that can't be retrofited with winglets and have seen a high number of grounded aircraft. The original question came up after a dinner discussion with some FAs over the meaning of an IFS memo about shrinking fNW fleets and growing fDL fleets and the benefit to them of resolving their representational issues. It was a pretty inocuous question in my mind.

I know it has been a big pill for the fNWA guys to swallow to transition to mostly Delta stuff but its gettin' a little old to hear that everything was better the way NWA did it or easier or more efficient or whatever! Maybe it was or maybe it wasn't but good grief every single thing for you guys seems to be worthy of complaining about...Lets hope the changes come to an end soon for everyone!
.

I don't think that it was necessarily complaining about the change and I can guarantee you that everything was not better at NWA. It is simply change and I do think that it is healthy and a good idea for those individuals that are changing to ask questions and discuss the differences. You never know, sometimes change is not always better. I like the adopt and go philosophy as it allowed us to achieve SOC under an unheard of time-line. Everyone should be commended, especially the working groups that conducted the discussions and provided the direction. Questioning and discussion is good.

Actually, I hope that the changes will continue into the future as we begin to actually work towards adopting the best practice, instead of whatever was quicker.

You do realize that Carl is one of the really smart guys on here. I can't think of much he hasn't been right about over the years.

Make fun if you like...........but he does have credibility:cool:

The NWA guys have much greener pasture to return to. I know 3 that had no plans of returning to NWA, but are now planning to come back to Delta. I would bet that 150+ of the 220 from NWA come back. Opinions?

I know of a great many DAL-N and S that are planning on returning. Last time I checked it was about 150 or so that had shown intent. (Who knows now, I am sure it will be 150 at a min)

Does that give him the right to blanket attacks on other people especially when he is sooooo wrong? I'd never call another poster here "ill-informed, puffed up and arrogant", at least not in the same post, although I can think of one or two I'd like to. I respect your opinion but all I've seen from him lately are attacks on Moak or anyone else who doesn't think exactly the way he does.

Love is what I do, baby!

Yes, Carl has been a bit...grumpier lately. Doesn't mean he's not sharp!

For me, with this whole JAL deal... the biggest thing is going to be how the JV is worded.

I see some very strong potential positives, but we can also get hosed as well if we're not careful. I like DALPA's stance with the AF JV stuff.... let's keep that going.

Tonights discussion... Ed Bastian, the man, the myth, the negotiator. Will he feel like we've helped out so much through all this that he gives us C2K back?
