ALPA has more in common with, say, the American Medical Association than with the Teamsters or United Auto Workers, or even with other airline unions. ALPA members average over $80,000 a year, and a few senior captains rake in more than $200,000. Union President Henry A. Duffy, 52, a Delta captain, is something of a champ. ALPA pays him $225,000 a year, including allowances for personal expenses.

I am against throwing ALPA out at this time. There may come a time where it is needed, but that is a long way off.

What's a staff engineer?

You stated that there were secretaries making 6 figures. There's not a single secretary on that list. Also, that list is 4 years old and there's no overtime for Unit II folks anymore like there was in 2006.

It's interesting how two faced some can be...whine and complain about the paycuts they've endured, but then attacking those that work for them because they haven't taken as significant a cut. I guess that perspective comes from Fox "News":p

We have guys that celebrate the chest thumping of unions like UAL ALPA under Wallach, or the sickout order defiance for which Judge Kendall fined APA $45 million, then they complain when they get judgements like this. Take a look at Bucking Bar's post where he thinks he got screwed, and the results of this settlement where the Plaintiffs said the junior guys got too much...

The cold hard fact is that our union bureaucrats just paid $44 million of our money to cover their incompetence.

It may be premature to talk about decertification, but at some point there needs to be accountability. ALPA National has a whole building full of Benefit Administators, R&I Specialists, labor attorneys and others who are paid well into six figures. Their entire reason for being is to avoid this kind of disaster. Those people have failed us miserably.

To start with, the people who are responsible for this debacle should resign or be terminated.

ALPA National has done some good things over the decades.
But at this point in its history, it costs far more than it is worth to the members.
There needs to be some serious reform.

How does ALPA justify paying $106,000 for a Travel Specialist? Travel specialist is really a secretarial job, one who does the travel research and makes travel reservations for ALPA bigwigs and employees. One who hands you the travel itinerary. What about Contract Administrators making $108,000/yr. A Contract Administartor is a glorified office clerk who pores over every mundane paperwork including ALPA office supply contracts.

ALPA's willful misconduct, or at best incompetence will reap mega-million dollar benefits for retired senior wide body UAL CAs but will squeeze every dime out of junior pilots on the current roster, mainline down to regionals affliated with ALPA.
