DAL NEVER gave us this type of info when we hired on. It was learn as you go. They are put out a ton of info with this merger. As fDAL new hires there was a ton of new information ... BUT we were surrounded by other crew members who could offer instruction. fNWA has to unlearn the old ways, learn the new way AND everyone they fly with, layover with, is also a "new guy". Reading all the complaining posts does get old after a while, I have to keep telling myself they are getting waterboarded with this stuff. I do wish they would just ask more questions and little less P & M. But when they do ask for hints, I wish the fDAL could help without mentioning how they learned it ALL by figuring it out by themselves.

I never got instructed on how do bid, but I somehow figured it out.

As for the CD's call Manual services. They do make mistakes and are terribly over worked right now. Most of it shows up on demand or in the case of the recurrent CD's without a thing done by you. If you are not getting what you need nor want, be proactive. It works very well.

Are there things that could use improvement, yes, with out a doubt, but the union and the company need ppl like you to be willing to step forward and lend a hand.

My track record with CD's is terrible, it has rarely showed up "on demand", I have had a defective CD. And I have been informed there were "temporary shortages" - come on, how long does it take to duplicate a CD? So the availability of information that can be downloaded is certainly an improvement!

Rant over...

Fox News just reported a security breach at DTW. TSA is on it as usual.

That is part of the reason that they send out these CD's so early. I always stick the sucker in the computer and make sure it works. If it does not, I am not setting myself up.

I think that eventually we will go to us downloading the recurrent, initial, etc, course material, and saving the cost of the CD's. Works for me. I prefer to have it on a zip drive. (That is what I do with it anyway. Get the CD, import it to a zip drive and then I can take it with me)

So when are we going to learn more about this LOA?

Zip drive? Man that is old school. How many 100 meg zip disks does it take to copy the entire CD? :D

My gawd. I carry around two 8 gb drives with me while on the road. I get the point though.

It has been suggested that all of the recurrent material be downloaded by said pilot and not distributed via CD. A savings of probably 100K a year if not more.

You know what's REALLY scary about that? If they require it to be COMPLETED online... I think dalpa should fight that one tooth and nail.

I think you can download it to a ext storage device and do it that way. It allows a completion code like we do now.

That's fine.. I don't care how you get it on your computer whether it is CD or download, I am concerned about them deciding to have us go to a website and complete it there. As long as it remains doable on my own time (commuting or some other time).. I'm good. Unless of course dalpa can actually get us paid for the actual time we spend watching the back pain prevention segment... again....
