I'm not sure if I can find my way back to LAX. And then, we changed employee parking lots, and then.....sheesh. What does a 737-800 look like again?

Love ya FTB. We gotta do adult beverages soon. That is, if I ever travel again.

Buzz,

Not only are you going to have to find LAX BUT you better scope out your route to SNA - almost all of our flying next month is SNA - hope it changes in May - I hate SNA. :(

Still havent done them. Now that we merged with NWA and they have the mod, they are "talking more strongly" about it, haha.

I never had to do a pole check but had to learn how since I qual'd initially on the 88. That's gotta be the most ghetto procedure I've ever heard at an airline!

When I flew the -9, we had to have a pre-contamination check done. I'm assuming this is the pole check you are referring to. The ground crew would do it though, and then verbally confirm to us that they did it. We were never expected to do it. We were just expected to make sure one of the ramp personnel did it.

It took us MONTHS on the north side to figure out what the heck you guys were doing fiddling with the 757 APU bleed values. Off, unless your doing this, then it's on, unless it's in icing, except on alternate tuesdays during a leap year....

The answer, which they could have told us up front, is that the DAL 757 APU bleeds don't have the "smart" mod, which basically turns them off automatically if there is another bleed source available. Thus the northside procedure was to leave them on all the time.

Of course, we started the right engine first so we could get the ac/heat going sooner, but hey, that falls into the realm of "captain's discretion" now, I guess.

As for the DC-9 "pole", we had yet another solution...we trained the rampers to do it. Call into ops for an "upper wing inspection", and he/she'd come up and say "all clear", and that was done.

As for the center tank pump mod...sheesh, that's been done 5 years now. You guys musta been hiding the plans for that in the 8" floppy disk box that holds the program for DBMS.

Nu

Now if we could only get autobrakes installed on all the N 757's we would have quite a fleet! Each airlines fleets are always different and carry different specs and mods. This must be Nu's first merger. He would have loved flying any of our 7 different varients of the 727. If all he can complain about is a bleed value he should be a incredibly happy man!!!!

No autobrakes?!? So you can't set autobrakes 2 and wear out the brakes by hardly stopping*? :D

I loved the CD for the 756, "the 767 only has 4 doors. Some have 6. This system works like this. Except for some ship numbers where its completely opposite. We recommend this procedure in an emergency. Except on some models where that would be detrimental to safety. Test time..."

I'm teasing, but thats what it felt like.

You know what is the best thing about the 757-200ERs? That hook to hold your hand mic.

*Somewhere I've got to dig out this SB for the ERJ-145 but it had an interesting factoid in it. The Europeans didn't order TR for their E145s while the American operators all did. But ironically it was the Europeans who had brakes lasting twice as long as the American E145s. Its the physical nature of carbon brakes, heat them up by using them to stop the aircraft and they last longer, if you use them spairingly and when cold and you chaffe them. I think Coex got down to only use TR in an emergency and American Eagle was don't even pop the buckets, brakes are a lot cheaper then a $600K TR overhaul. I know AirTran publishes a chart for the 737 on what runway lengths not to use TR during normal ops. Just a factoid.

The use of reverse thrust at AirTran/Valuejet was a fuel savings issue. It was not about brake wear. The same thing was discussed at Delta however it was decided that if a aircraft went off the end of the runway the lawyers would have a field day with it.

United Air Sees ‘Real Signs of Recovery’ in Pacific (Update2)

By Bloomberg News

March 29 (Bloomberg) --UAL Corp.’s United Airlines said it’s seeing a rebound in bookings for flights across the Pacific, the carrier’s largest region by passenger traffic outside the U.S.

“There are real signs of recovery,” Chief Executive Officer Glenn Tilton said in Beijing today. “The Pacific is showing its traditional strength. It’s moving at a higher level compared to our other international markets.” United is “very encouraged” by demand for trans-Pacific flights for the first quarter and beyond, Tilton said at a signing ceremony for a service agreement with Aircraft Maintenance & Engineering Corp., a joint venture between Air China Ltd. and United alliance partner Deutsche Lufthansa AG.

International travel is pivotal for U.S. airlines because they don’t face discount competitors on those routes. Flights outside North America accounted for 43 percent of Chicago-based United’s passenger traffic through February, with Pacific trips representing more than half that total.

United is the third-largest U.S. carrier by passenger traffic, trailing Delta Air Lines Inc. and AMR Corp.’s American Airlines. UAL has posted net losses in eight of the past nine quarters as the recession shrank travel demand, especially among the corporate fliers who typically pay the highest fares.

Bombardier Order?
Bombardier Inc.’s new C-Series jet may be among the models considered by United this year as it studies an order for new narrow-body planes, Tilton said, echoing comments made in December by United President John Tague.

“There isn’t any reason to preclude the C-Series from this discussion,” Tilton said.
The C-Series is due to make its first flight in 2012 and will carry as many as 149 passengers. United’s mainline fleet now consists of planes from Boeing Co. and Airbus SAS.

In December, United split an order for 50 long-range wide- body jets between Boeing and Airbus. That was the airline’s first aircraft purchase in 11 years.
UAL rose 8 cents to $19.99 at 4 p.m. New York time in Nasdaq Stock Market composite trading. The shares’ 55 percent gain this year is the largest among the 12 carriers in the Bloomberg U.S. Airlines Index.

FTB: All and all, I think there is nothing of real value but hopefully the talk of the pacific picking back up is true. I think Bombardier sales team is probably really tired of airlines saying "sure, the C-Series should be in the mix as we study our future replacements..." They want less looksies and more orders-ies!!

That used to look a lot more complicated back in the day. Flashbacks are an ugly thing though... Green light's ON!

Therefore we are severely under"manned" in the FA department and we should immediately hire hot young FAs?!!!!

I nominate Super to handle the selection process with strong emphasis on
underboob!

This sounds like the perfect opportunity to eliminate one of our biggest detriments....fire the old bats and hire some nice, pleasant, younger babes.
