[quote=NuGuy;788188]Wow. I say that I'm very pleased with the NC election and that I support the direction the MEC is going,
(and, therefore, by implication, you presumably support the leadership of the chairman of that MEC, which support until now has somehow gone remarkably unnoticed) ... and I get called derisive. No, you get called derisive for being derisive...thats kinda how that works, don't ya know, Padawan?(snickering in the background at your Boy Scout-like naivete') and anybody who could ever quash a patently frivolous grievance is "doing management's job" and is therefore acting "like a DB" (notice how I didn't elaborate on what "DB" means..it doesn't matter, we see that it must be a derisive term)..... And, ya, I think Keen was making fun you. No! Keen making fun me? -Me making fun Keen! Me make fun you.....heap big fun! Many moons pilot group no pow-wow good. Wiggy, Keen, Nu smokim' peace-pipe now, feel better. |

All this goes out the window if it's international and/or ends with a DH. They had me a few weeks ago DH back 22 hours after the start of my SC from MEX and I had to accept it. Kind of a perfect storm for a domestic reserve pilot, but it can (and did) happen. Just something to keep in mind commuting to reserve. . |

Will you clarify what you mean by it being different with a DH? Your DH can't put you beyond the max duty day.
Absolutely correct. However, it's black and white in the contract that your PWA duty day doesn't begin at the beginning of your SC, but at report (This needs to be changed IMHO, but what do I know :D.) In my case, I began SC at 3am, but didn't report until 9am-ish. I worked the flight from DTW-MEX, and was then scheduled to DH back to DTW arriving around 9pm. Now doing the math I guess it was around 18 hours or so, not 22 so I exagerrated a little bit. Anyways, scheduling quoted me the PWA, and they were correct, that my max duty day calculation didn't begin until 9am, so I was good per the contract to DH until 15 hours after report, or midnight. Like I said, the whitlow interpretation is usually more restrictive for a SC pilot, but only applies to domestic only. In this case, I could have worked the flight back from MEX because whitlow doesn't apply to international - However, the turn was over 8 hours block so it was limited by this instead. Clear as mud?? |

C'mon boys. Have a beer and make nice. You're gonna be on the same crew bus one day soon and I don't want to hear it. :p
And ACL and I will be there with our cokes. :D |
With regards to the MSP DC 9 rumors, here are the numbers:
We currently have 610 pilots on the DC9 (April) with 275 of those in MSP. When all of the conversions are done from the January Bid, we will be down to 482 DC 9 pilots, with 213 in MSP. Crew resources said we will need to displace about 50 more crews (100ish pilots) to finish up the 30's/40's retirement. Even if they take all 100 from MSP, they will still need to displace 100+ more to another/other base(s) to close the category. Not saying they won't, just seems unlikely. |

Well I checked my Sked after 1500 LBT, & my SC was still there so I acknowledged it with a sulky click of the mouse.
On my way to the airport I decided to check my sked again, & suprise....a 4 day with a 1300 report showed up. I acknowledged it now & headed back home, I'll commute in tomorrow. :) I just accepted it now because I know they could have just called me in the morning during my SC window & given it to me then. It is one leg that finishes just inside 12 hours from the beginning of my SC so I was going to get the trip either way, right? I didn't just commit myself to working when I didn't have too, did I? :o |

I think if you do this though, you lose the short call credit. When this happens to me, I'm usually in NY or on the way so I don't acknowledge the trip and wait for the short call call to make sure I get credit for the SC. I think I just talked myself into a circle!:D
Exactly, make sure you're still given credit for the short call... Your responsibility still lies with it. If you let them remove it, they can tag you with another short call later in the month. Or, just go home and put off the short call to a later date. Many ways to play that game. |
