Nice to hear! Great talent in the WCHA-the challenge is it leaves so quickly to the NHL.

Quick reserve question and I'm sure it's been covered before, but can't seem to find anything on it. I'm SC today 0300-1500, provided I'm not given another SC assignment for tomorrow when do I revert to long call and am obligated to answer my phone? 1501? or at midnight? Thanks!

1501. Your rest will come in the 12 hours before the trip (if they give you one). Long call starts as soon as short call ends.

Awesome! Thanks that's what I thought!

I'm not so sure about this. You are done at 1500. If your phone rings at 1501, you are not required to answer it.

The earliest you should receive a call is 1201am.

But you are required to check your schedule for the next day, I think it is nine hours prior...so 1500 for the next day. But don't quote me on this because I haven't been on reserve for a while.

You are confusing the end of short call with the "last non-fly day" schedule check requirements.
Moonshot is correct. When short call ends you immediately revert to long call with all the usual long call rules.
In the above example, they could call at 1501 and assign a trip that reports in 12 hours. True, you wouldn't have to answer the phone but the trip is still yours. You have to acknowledge it via phone or computer no later than 3 hours prior to report.

No he is correct.

Sorry, concerning checking of the schedule:

after block-in of the last flight segment of his rotation prior to his release (see Section 12 G. 13. - 14.), and no later than 0200 base time on his first on-call day following a non-fly day, so as to be able to acknowledge:
a any assignment no later than three hours before a scheduled report of the
rotation or start of a short call period

DTW Question: What is the best way to get back and forth between the airport and downtown? I see a cab fare is about $50 one way. Is a rental car the best option?

Thanks,

OK, still not seeing this correctly. If assigned a day of short call from 0300 to 1500 you are on technically on duty for that 12 hour time period - FAA wise.

23. 9. b.

...must be promptly available for contact by Crew Scheduling during his short call period until the earlier of:
1) the end of the short call period, or
2) this departure to report for an awarded/assigned rotation.

You are not on the hook to answer the phone from 1500-2400, right?

Where does it say that a short call pilot becomes a long call pilot at the moment that short call ends? Your long call day starts at 1201 the next day..

acl65pilot 04-02-2010 06:44 AM

When you are done with SC you responsibility to be immediately available ends, but you still need to Acknowledge a new assignment. You are not on duty during a SC period. It is not rest but it is not duty therefore the requirement of rest is not needed. You revert back to LC. Once notified of a new assignment you are placed on required rest.
