How about SC are pay no credit from the get go.

I do like your idea that we could bid for three, or lets say two, and then the rest are pay no credit. That said, what will the credit be since you are technically still getting paid for that reserve day. This would be assigned as premium pay. I am sure they will want airport standby for this......
I don't know what they will want. From a certain perspective I don't care. Yeah yeah yeah I know.. we don't live in a vacuum.. everything has a cost, yada yada yada... the point is that reserve has been (and I use this loosely) abusive and abrogative of seniority in a seniority based system, and needs to be repaired if not torn down and rebuilt from scratch. Pay no credit for SC from the get go is a little ambitious, but I think you'd see reserve go senior again if that were the case. At any rate, I know there are several solutions out there like bidding on a SC line for better line values and things like that. I just know that the current system is unsat.

I agree. I know that the C44 Vice had some great ideas a year ago. They were all low or no cost items and would bring vast improvements to the system as a whole.

I'm not sure I'll ever really be senior - too old for that. 10 year F/O, only 2000 guys below me and only 12 years to 65. If I go to ezonpenboard.com and check my seniority it's too depressing to even contemplate. Career F/O forever - Remember - DELTA only hires Captains - unless you can't get there from here.

We know one way that doesn't work - Reserve Roulette in CVG.

For short call: I like the way the current system defaults you to LC with assignments to SC, but a few minor fixes could make huge improvements to QOL.

First, as many have stated, develop a system on how SC's are assigned. I don't really care if they use RAW, seniority, first in first out or any other system--just let us know what it is and put a template in Icrew so we can see where we stand on the list. I don't mind sitting SC as it is my job, but it would be nice take a look, see where you stand and plan ahead.

Second, if someone requests SC--give it to them. There have been many times I have requested it only to have it assigned to everyone in my day grouping except me. I understand they cannot give SC to everyone each day and have to "save" some so everyone doesn't max out early in the month, so use seniority to decide. You need 5 SC's--the 5 most senior people who request it, get it. In addition, give us more choices than AM/PM when we do request it. For me a 9 or 10 am SC works best and allows a commute in and out the same day, but requesting an am SC usually results in a 4 or 5 am, and requesting a pm gives me 12. Both resulting in a stay in base. I know we can call them in the morning and put in a voice request, but that is a PITA for everyone.

Third, a template to request what time we would like SC, but only if needed (much like "performance qualifiers if needed to fly") would be nice. I rarely want to volunteer for SC however if I MUST sit it I would like to give some input.

Fourth, a cutoff time for them assigning SC for the next day, much like we have for the first day following an x-day. There is usually no reason why they cannot have there plan finalized by say 3pm. If you are not assigned SC by then you are on LC the next day. It is like this nearly everyday anyway, lets just make it official. The times when they need to call additional SC's at 7 or 8 pm for the next day, the system is probably AFU anyway and they are going to be handing out greenslips with or without more SC's.

Next, give us a rotation specific yellow slip option. It would be nice to lower our score to try to get the 48 hour SXM overnight without having to worry about getting nailed with the MAO or UIO double all-nighter. Something like we have for green or whiteslips would work nicely.

Finally, NO MORE 24 HOUR SC PERIODS.

The system we have is not too bad, but with a few minor changes it could make life a lot better for us near the bottom.

True. I was referring on the item of how to avoid SC on your first day of RSV...

I can see where they thought that may work. Not a good idea in my book, but I am one of those that stresses over commutes, so sitting at home (while commuting) on LC is even too much of a stretch.

Great ideas. A well thought out response.

Thanks ACL. It was during my vacation and just wanted to make some quick $ with a FL turn. Guess I'll have to wait for something to open up later in the month. FYI, the reason was 'invalid to drop/add status code present.'
