I am such a nerd...

Theres a light next to the FO's airspeed indicator that isnt on DL planes, and there isnt a blank place in between the ADI and altimeter that is on DL planes.

I'm going to go dress up in a storm trooper uniform now....

The heading selector switch is also different. As far as playing dress up, can't help you there.....;)

Read section 1

Total number of big rj's is limited to 225. From where we are now it is 3 RJ's for each mainline jet. Add to it that DAL is trying to reduce 50 seaters, it makes for a very difficult process.
The DCI contract that were signed in CH 11 and shortly thereafter are a legal nightmare for DAL. Each DCI carrier knows it too. They are the ones with most of the upper hands. DAL has a few though. Every five years we rework a few sections of the contract. Many of those contracts are entering in to this first five year window. Things like compensation, hold backs, through cost, etc are going to be reworked. A few of them have min limit points. Many of those are very close to the floors that were set.
What this means is that to shrink DCI, mainline will need to shrink.

Now on to your questions.
Yes, DAL offered 1 CRJ 900 in return to park 2 CRJ 200's. This would have been the easiest way to shrink DCI. No courts no hard feelings, but the DCI carriers have employees that they need to keep happy to. Doing this replacement leaves 50% of the work group on the street. It is not something that many want to do right now. In a few years when attrition is high at the regional level they would take this deal and run with it. Just not in these times.

Fact is that Compass should grow. It is the best place to do so, but like OH, you will probably see them stagnate. The will be kept to a min level of flying in the down turn. Now when the economy recovers you will probably see the wholly owned carriers grow so that in the next down turn they do not have the issues with shrinking the contract carriers that they are having today.

Sorry to jump in on your conversation guys but OH is not stagnate. We have 206 guys on the street now, and another 92 scheduled in January. It is also rumored that we will be down to 50 CRJ200's by the end of 2009. So that will take our pilot requirement down around the area of 800. So in 18 months we'll have 600 guys on the street. May mainline and Compass have better luck.

I didn't at first...:), but on closer inspection, I was wrong, it's not the heading selector, it's the V/S switch that is different.

Come on down brother! Funniest thing I've read on here in years!

acl65pilot 12-15-2008 08:26 AM

I understand that OH has not stagnated, but if they want to keep the certificate alive and not have associated costs when DCI grows again, there is a min level that they need to keep OH at. See if you dump most to all of the flying, it would cost DAL a ton of money to grow them in the future.
DAL has two choices with OH, close the doors, or use them as an accumulator in the system. If they choose the later, there is a min staffing level that they will not want to go below.
That is what I was trying to say.
