Nepal's state-run airline has confirmed that it sacrificed two goats to appease a Hindu god, following technical problems with one of its aircraft.
Nepal Airlines said the animals were slaughtered in front of the plane - a Boeing 757 - at Kathmandu airport.
The offering was made to Akash Bhairab, the Hindu god of sky protection, whose symbol is seen on the company's planes.
The airline said that after Sunday's ceremony the plane successfully completed a flight to Hong Kong.
"The snag in the plane has now been fixed and the aircraft has resumed its flights," senior airline official Raju KC was quoted as saying by Reuters.
Nepal Airlines has two Boeing aircraft in its fleet.
The persistent faults with one of the planes had led to the postponement of a number of flights in recent weeks. The company has not said what the problem was, but reports in local media have blamed an electrical fault.

I disagree, and so does the company, in a roundabout way. Domestic reserve stretches are limited by Delta to 6 days max to comply with the FAR 24/7 rule. So, on the front end they acknowledge those are, in fact, duty days even if you are not used. Then, on the back end, they say "Oh, wait. That was really free time because we didn't use you." The company is playing on both sides of the net and has apparently been doing so for a long time.

The fix is actually quite simple: just insure the pilot has 9 hours free of duty prior to the start of the next SC.

The real problem for the company is the long-call-becomes-short-call practice. Any transition to SC would require 9 hours notice, a solution I personally am in favor of.

They sacrifice goats and we sacrifice pilots.


Whether that makes sense or not, I don't know, it was just an opportunity to make a joke. :D

I gotta start reading the fleet page more often. This is the second really great/helpful thing I've gotten word of mouth, the first being the "how it's really done guide" that the north LCA (JM) put out.

The good news is I finally have my Eastern Hemisphere book put together. I had a couple of binders and ALL of the "stuff" stuck in a gym bag in MSP. I just kept adding revisions to it thinking "hey I'll never go to any of these places, or better yet I'll wait for ship sets". But hey, whats 3 or 4 hours out of a lifetime:D

Looking forward to the trip! Thanks for the info on the grocery. Where did you get money? I assume the French use Euro, but I guess you can never assume anything with the French:D

I only went to Guangzhou in China, but we don't go there anymore (hope we go back, wife wants more pearls).

Anyway, get your money from the hotel and make them put it through the anti counterfeit machine. Counterfeit currency is a real problem there, talked to a guy once who got a few bogas bills from an ATM even. China is the only place out there that I don't use ATMs or credit cards and take the hotel exchange hit. AND, get small bills for the taxis.......they will do the switcharoo with ya on a large bill giving you back a counterfeit.
