You know, I'd call. You know that airplane and who knows why they're doing it so maybe they'd love the input. At worse they won't know why they're doing it and at best they'll have a rock solid answer. And in the middle is where Keen could shine. :D

Who would you suggest to call. No problem talking to dispatcher but it is higher than that because he is just looking at what the computer spits out. I am willing to give it some time to figure things out, but at some point in time enought is enough.

Yeah I see what you're saying. You know dispatch might not be THE answer but they might provide an answer. Doesn't mean you stop there though. Take their answer and go to some other folks in the know. If you look on the 747 page on the internet there are a few names right there in the center of the screen, Fleet Captain (SS) Chief LCA (RN), Fleet Manager (OL), etc that you could email. Say "this keeps happening, I asked and got this answer. What say you?" Look at it this way, at least you're better off than NewK. Everytime he picks up the phone the President answers.

Next time you fly I'd keep a copy of the paper work, don't trash it, and use it as an example.

However, before you follow my advice there are some LCA floating around this forum that might be able to point in the right direction.

How does it look for SEA? Or am I going to see ya in LA?Ferd

Well I just got home from a trip and checked. There are a total of 81 guys senior to me with the bid in so far.:( 67 of which have it as one of their top 3 choices. So far so good. I was encouraged by the scheduling email that said, basically, since it's a new category, it will be awarded in seniority order regardless of whether one bids it via AE, VD, or MD. 6 days to go!

Sounds like a lot of the longer Asia trips will be out of SEA............I might see you up here?

Ferd- Flaps 5 isn't so much for fleet standardization as it is for squeezing out every last temp of thrust reduction they can do.

It actually burns a bit more gas derating that much, but the cost they save in engine overhaul far outweighs the burn.

So sayeth the Kremlin....

I'm all for saving money etc. but with a 176 knot rotation speed (LAS to ATL), it looks like I have to increase my comfort zone!!

So we traded a quid to the company for a "make every attempt"? The SOT, while an excellent idea, is not a hard gain. Haven't we done various and sundry OT's in the past? Did we have to trade something with management to get them? When the SOT provides some good recommendations are we then going to "buy" the enhancements?

Does the company ever give us a contractual language improvement in exchange for ALPA's promise to "make every attempt" or to form an advisory group

I'm underwhelmed. I hope we aim a little higher in 2012.

Keenster;
You mentioned a constant mach coming back from Asia on your last trip. I believe that is only for Atlantic crossings. Asia trips are normally flown at econ based on the cost index. Or alternately at commuter econ based on a cost index of 999.

You also mentioned in your flight plans that you were filed at an airspeed? not mach? If thats true, something is amiss with the 744 flight planning.

Also the overfueling issue is really a bummer because it limits non-revability and revenue cargo capacity- at least on the non-super-premium 777.

All of these are certainly valid questions to be straightened out. I believe the food chain for fixing all of these starts and ends with the dispatchers.

I did download and read it. No mention of a SOT.

Items on the LOA are:
A-319 European Charter Operations, Sick and Accident Leave, and Short Call

I beleive it was a MOU that was approved yesterday as well. They may have not been directly tied, but there is now a SOT.

The good thing is that the SOT will find areas that can be improved now. I am sure there are items that will be beneficial to both the pilot(s) and the company. Those changes we will see in the near therm, the others ones will more than likely take a LOA, MOU or C2012. At least we now have a vehicle to identify them.
