Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
The issue you bring up however should enter into the captains go/no-go thinking in that at speeds approaching tire limit speeds could possibly be more of a factor if a tire blows near V1. At those speeds (although I have never experienced a tire blowout on takeoff) I would think there would be lots of shake-rattle and rollin'... This was talked about a lot when we started doing flaps 5 takeoffs at DALs. As far as I know, it hasn't proven to be any sort of issue, but it's good that you are thinking about it, captain.

T, you are right! I'll have to look next time I fly a 757-300, but does AWABS give you a 15 vs 5 option if it thinks you can do 5?
I was one of the guys who over speed the tires on an early hybrid AWABS flight from LAS to MSP. We wrote it up, filed a NASAP and about a week later we went back to flaps 15 for all takeoffs on the -300. The memo we got said tire speed was taken into account in AWABS but, wow your doing between around 175 for V1 as I recall.

It is true that you can be haulin' down the asphalt in some cases... I no nuttin' about the longbody, so maybe it's more of a factor there, and I will look into that. For the south airplanes, I cannot recall any time that I would consider using 15 instead of 5 for T/O. I think that most S guys are pretty confident in the AWABS and if it works we use it. I'm on vacation right now, and I'm not sure about the 15 option. I think it will only give you flaps 5.. but maybe you can ask for a 15 T/O via ACARS. I will look into that when I go back to work.. and try to remember to let you know. Send me a PM if you would and that will refresh my memory.

Just trying to figure things out. As Scambo says we should be flying Cost index and air speed on a transpac and that was what we were getting. But then yesterday we got the constant .85 mach with no changes in cost index. Funny thing is we plugged in ECON(the old way we used to fly) and is gave an arrival time of 3 minutes earlier. Next time will call the dispatcher to see what the reason is. Probably trying to make up time.
