You can witness this on a winter day where a nasty snow storm is choking an airport, all the mainline flights are cancelled yet all the DCI flights continue to operate.

I would hope they had built some relief into the system now. When I flew for a regional we were told "we don't have authority to cancel flights" so during a snow storm the whole airline came to work, timed out, and went home. In other cases it because a safety issue, then the regional would run to the FSDO, self disclose the dispatching error and pin the blame on the Captain under his joint authority for the dispatch. Captain would get two weeks to sixty days off. The better Captains would use their authority in the form of refusing to operate the flight until conditions (or maintenance) allowed the flight to continue legally and safely. But our passengers, Delta passengers, were caught in the middle.

The real SNAFU was when a flight went out that should have been canceled. As you may be aware, Delta is not responsible for weather delays / cancellations. So the regional airline would divert to buttsniff (sometimes even a field with no open terminal) and sit on the ground. The regional wasn't paid to accommodate the passengers and they didn't. Can you imagine the pain of being stuck in a 50 seat RJ with about 57 others (crew and a couple of crying babies in bad need of new diapers) ? IMHO that is what Congress acted to stop.

I'm sure things have improved a lot since those days. Still, these passengers are our life blood and they'll remember the Delta Connection flight that got them to and from their nice Boeing / Airbus flight. That's our brand & outsourcing harms our stock in trade.

Well.......what do you like to do/what are you looking for (country living or city) There are many nice places to live. You and especially your spouse (if you have one) do need to be prepared for a higher percentage of cloudy weather. Not saying that to scare anyone but it is true!

If you are thinking of moving from ATL/DTW you will have sticker shock when it comes to housing prices. The further you get from the city the lower the prices will be but, even with last years economy, they are still higher. One thing good, no state income tax but the state does find other ways to get money. If you, or anyone, do get serious and want to move up to the area I know a few realtors that are great and can help out.

As far as "North vs. South", I would guess nearer to 50-50. I would also guess some 330 slots open on both sides, for a handful of people in each seat that are tired of Reserve. I would guess those are back-filled by North only. I haven't seen any South guy go to the 330 yet (not saying it's not happening). For whatever reason, I think the South guys look more to the 764, and the North guys the 330, when they're in that seniority range.

The first few DAL-S have already completed 330 training. IIRC there were 9 on the last AE. 8 in SEA and 1 in MSP. So far sounds like they all did well in training.

I think SEA will be very different for A's vs. B's. There aren't a lot of F/O's that used to be based in PDX or SEA for DAL, even if both positions naturally have people living in the Northwest. My guess is CA's go ridiculously senior, and F/O's go senior-junior, with the bottom half surprisingly junior. When I took a look, it appeared there were comparatively less pilots senior to me bidding SEA 7ERB, v.s. some of the current categories.

Thanks Sink! Unfortunately I'm not ridiculously senior!:) I'm trying to claw my way onto the bottom and hang on for dear life!!:D You guys will be the first to know if I get it!!:) I would agree with your assessment for both positions as far as seniority goes although I think the percentages will be different.

Can someone clarify something for me? LOA 22 says that reserve pilots will now be released by NOON on the last day before a hard non fly day.

I thought we already had that in our contract?
