Ha.

So the Euro is crashing, EU might not make it, U.S. says North Korea sunk South Korean ship, Iran 90 days from nuclear power, 36% of analyst say DOW will hit 5000 by years end, a JetBlue pilot threatens to crash his plane into the ground... man, the news has never looked so good.

Seriously, looked good. I don't know what she said but I sure did like the way she said it...

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A JetBlue co-pilot was taken into custody from a flight departing from Boston Thursday after allegedly making a threat to crash the plane, but JetBlue is saying those reports are false.

Otherwise, the pressurization will snap it shut around 10,000 feet. It sounds like a rifle shot going off next to your head.

Alfa,

Yes it does - I flew Dc-9s and C-9Bs in the Navy and also experienced that (very unnerving to say the least) but it was very rare, happened 2 or 3 times in about 3000 hours.

The game with the window pressurizing is to see who can be the cool guy who is unfazed by the sudden rifle shot.

I'll take that bang any day over a bad seal on takeoff. Thats when I get irritated that we don't have hot mic's, especially under 10,000 feet.

Aviation Week
Analyst: Boeing Will Opt For New Narrowbody

May 20, 2010

By Joseph C. Anselmo

A Wall Street analyst predicts Boeing will up the ante in the race to build a better passenger jet by launching development of new aircraft to replace its 737 narrowbody.

Morgan Stanley’s Heidi Wood says she expects the company will spend as much as $13 billion to develop the new jet instead of a less costly but inferior move to outfit the existing 737 with next-generation engines. The all-new aircraft — possibly twin-aisled to allow faster loading of passengers — could be ready to enter service by 2017 or 2018, Wood says in a May 19 note to her clients.

Boeing and Airbus have been looking at ways to improve their respective narrowbodies — the 737 and the A320 — to keep them competitive with Bombardier’s new CSeries jet and aircraft being developed by new competitors in China and Russia and possibly Brazil. Airbus is widely expected to re-engine the A320, with first deliveries in 2015, though company leaders said last week that a decision would be delayed from summer to year-end to give them more time to consider options.

Even if Boeing followed suit by re-engining the 737, that aircraft, which already has been refreshed three times since its inception in 1967, might be 8-10% less fuel-efficient than a revamped A320, Wood argues. “We think Boeing is prudent to be pre-emptive with an all-new airplane,” she says. “Southwest has been agitating for a new 737 replacement for years and would be among the first launch customers.”

Wood’s prediction lines up with the views of some airlines and leasing companies, which question whether re-engining the 737 and A320 could deliver enough of an efficiency gain to compete with the CSeries. The Bombardier aircraft, which is scheduled to enter service in 2013, is designed to provide up to a 20% fuel burn advantage by combining a next-generation Pratt & Whitney Geared Turbofan engine with advanced structures and systems. And as Boeing heads toward the finish line in development of its 787, research funds and engineering talent will be freed up.

But Teal Group analyst Richard Aboulafia is skeptical of the idea of an all-new replacement for the 737 and predicts Boeing ultimately will move forward with re-engining. He says Boeing could not bring an all-new airplane to service until at least two years after a re-engined A320 arrived, essentially ceding 1,000 narrowbody deliveries to Airbus. He also believes the timing would be premature because next-generation technologies that could truly make a new aircraft a game changer would not yet be ready.

It's a fact that Delta has announced plans to hire approximately 300 pilots.

We're always 1 event away from a change in plans.

Slow,

That's not being a wet blanket, it's being a realist. We are always 1 event away from the pendulum swinging the other way. My point was the hiring is closer to FACT then rumor. It's a conservative number IMO.

Lets hope they get moving on that jet and we commit to it.

Quick question, if MSP and NYC are both light on the M88 F/O side how will scheduling try and fill the bid package? Basically will they try and give as many lines as possible to the pilots, or will they still keep a good amount of reserve pilots in base for the month?

I'm sure they will increase the ALV so as to maximize the amount of flying lineholders will fly, I'm just trying to figure out if they will just route F/O's from other bases where they are heavy to pick up the reserve flying.

My hunch is saying they will still keep a bunch of reserves and leave alot of open time while working the reserve pilots as much as humanly possible.

AMEN brother ACL.

If I had my choice, I'd love for it to look like a Falcon 7X. 3 engines. Now before everyone laughs, that airplane for the same speed burns less fuel and the engines still cost less than the same size twin engine G550.

And more importantly, 3 engines is sexier.

There will be an orderly conversion of these awards so that no one base is overtly short staffed. They have until December to convert pilots.

FTB;
I love the Falcon. What a nice lookin bird.
