In football I rested for more than I actually played, and most of the guys were only on the team because of their size and not necessarily their athletic ability.
Like someone else stated, soccer players athleticism and the demands of the game (just like hockey) are under appreciated. But whatever, we Americans must have it right and the entire world has it wrong:rolleyes: Run along and go idolize your fat "athletes" on your favortite football team. After all that is a "manly" sport.

I've been enjoying the give and take about two sports I enjoy. However, Chente, I'll put up a "fat" football player like Reggie Bush or Ray Lewis against the best that soccer has any day.

LOL. Yeah, I haven't flown for a couple of weeks either. We can scare each other!

I'm deviating from the deadhead flight and will be going to ATL direct from where I live. I'll send you a PM with my cell. Maybe we can do lunch, if you want.

While I can't run 8 miles at one time anymore, I have played football, and soccer, and rugby while going to a British boarding school. Without a doubt, rugby players are the only manly ones out there. Think of the contact of football with the constant running of soccer.

Any other alpha-nerds buying the EVO 4G on Friday? If so, don't forget your Delta employment gets you a 25% discount on Sprint's standard plans. The Atlanta Airport sits in a nice 4G area (as does most of Atlanta & the surrounding burbs). My understanding is the 25% off will not apply to the $10 a month data fee for the EVO's unlimited 4G service.

At the Delta Block Party the Sprint Reps were running several lap tops tethered to a prototype EVO. It was right at ten times faster than my fiber optic / DSL connection here at the house with AT&T. Unfortunately the default browser would still make a mash of iCrew. Once I get my hands on one for longer, I'll test the other browsers and report.

If you’re already an existing customer and not receiving your discount, please call 1-866-639-8354 to claim your discount. Have your ID or pay stub handy and mention Corp ID: NANWT_ZZZ.

Now that's a true Viking sport.

In EDI I had all the catranchers watching it, and they all loved the shorts.... I am still laughing about that....

Keep enjoying NASCAR, and Football with 6'5" freaks of nature crush each other with pads. And as much as people here think football players are real athletes, hate to break it to you guys, just because someone is huge with ripped muscles it doesnt make them a great athlete. They take breaks every 15 seconds. Soccer players run 8 miles a game.....
Like I said, keep enjoying your NASCAR, Football, and ever so exciting golf.

Soccer has never caught the American public imagination and neither has the hooliganism and nationalistic violence that so often accompanies the sport in Europe, (we like our violence in the sport). If the measure of sport is endurance and athleticism I'd venture that freestyle wrestling would trump either, but the fan appeal is limited. Europe loves Formula One racing which consists of 20 teams or so of which two or three are competitive. NASCAR is almost always competitive. To each his own.

Just because you can run 8 miles (for the record, I can) sure as hell deosn't make you a great athlete (I'm not). They aren't running continuously either.

And I like soccer, just hate it when people hold it up to be something more than it is....just a sport

This^^^^^^ You beat me to it.

This too... I think it's just that hockey doesn't play well to TV. That and all the players are Russian.

I dunno... I think it is probably a lot easier to stop Beckham even when he was in his prime than it would be to block Ray Lewis... but I could be wrong. There's no doubt that soccer players are fairly athletic. It just doesn't play well here to most Americans because it is BORING.. and Americans have zero attention span. American football gives you the opportunity to go get a beer between plays... while you might miss the only goal of the game if you turn your head in soccer... Nah.. give me the Super Bowl over the World Cup any day. But.. to each his own.

I was in a British Pub in Abu Dhabi once and made the mistake of referring to it as "soccer." I caught some major crap from all the Brits in there that night. Of course, we were all drinking buddies by the end of the night anyway.

Just don't ever make the mistake of asking one of them to explain Cricket... that takes a very long time and a whole lot of booze.
