On the issue of green-slips as proffers - If you put in for a green-slip you are "requesting to fly" and are expected to be available. You can use the GS filters or just put in a blanket GS and screen your calls - both methods work.

In a perfect world if you are going to be 'out of position' you should not have a green-slip in the system. Or as has been said before don't answer the phone.

I have turned down GS's before and never had a scheduler ever say anything other than OK, and smartly move on. I'm sure if they are desperate and you are the third pilot with a GS in that couldn't take the trip they would naturally get a little frustrated and understandably so.

Just curious...where is the pilot ghetto in MSP? I know ATL is Peachtree City, SLC is Park City, SEA is Gig Harbor, not sure about DTW?

The GS they were calling about started with a redeye. When I explained that I was unrested and not in position, that's when she turned on the ***** mode. I have never had a scheduler talk to me like that, ever.

So what exactly is "Acknowledge" the trip? Is it saying "hello" or is it "yes I can be there?" I tend to believe the latter. For the one time I may have not been able to help out there are probably 20 that I have. It's summer and the whole operation is stressed. We all have to work together to make it run smoothly.

BD,

Sorry BD, I wasn't trying to pick on you. Just trying to make a point that didn't come across to well. Sounds like you were very reasonable and the scheduler was NOT. Just guessing that you were her third or fourth call to cover this trip. Regardless, she should not have treated you that way. Common courtesy should be a given between employees of the same company. Unfortunately I have run into the samething a few times too.

To me an average non-lawyer Joe this meant "No more status quo."

In my unsophisticated world the union could have used the preceding case as precedent for not performing any more additional flying - the company made a change to the status quo. We had guys on furlough and to me, this was a missed opportunity. Overall, I think DALPA has done quite well in the tumultuous decade following 9-11, but I will never understand the above situation. Maybe the senior guys were digging the extra flying and thought it was a way to help soften the drastic pay cuts. Maybe the union was a little gun-shy after the previous court ruling.

When GS's went from 2x to 1.5x, it was by mutual agreement between the company and the union........

The union is STILL gun-shy about that court ruling. Probably with good reason.

I have turned down a GS before. I had good reason, but I do apologize if that occurs.

It's Apple Valley, also known as ALPA Valley...20 miles south of the airport. Don't really know if there is one in DTW... the guys I fly with up there are from all around. Basically anywhere but DTW. Seems like there's a pretty good concentration around Ann Arbor.

Question for an AWABS expert. We took off from HNL last night with a 757-300. AWABS gave us a flaps 5 (179K V2, yikes) off of 08L. What is interesting is that MGL never let you use 8L due to a climb limit. Any idea what the difference is? Flaps 5 vs flaps 15?

Honest, not picking an A vs B fight, just trying to understand.

Side Question:

As I understand it, PCS runs are three times a day. What times are they?
