The PDX departure to HNL was so late that by the time it arrived in HNL, there were no connections to any of the islands left. You had to overnight if you were going to connect.

I heard the same thing re: the PDX retiming. The loads tanked when the flight moved to a 530pm mainland departure.

First and foremost you do not need CP approval for ML. They can NOT deny mil leave because it falls on a holiday or they are short staffed.

To answer your question though the form is on Deltanet on the CPSC page it is a fill in the blank sheet that goes to your CP.


That being said they can and will call you to verify the mil leave and they may call your commander or equivalent to see about your mil leave. For example if you take one day of Mil Leave on 25 December you can pretty much expect a call to your CC. Both times this year I have had mil leave over a holiday I received a call from one of the CPs. I did not feel threatened or harassed and I had no issues. Since then I have gone in and introduced myself to the CP so he can put a name to a face.

Unfortunately this policy is in place because there are a VERY FEW guys that may be cheating the system.

Agree that you can drop any and all military days you need. That said, I think the question was with regard to dropping days without any chief pilot involvment. Military guys can go it and drop military days via iCrew. 99% of the time your schedule is automatically and instantly adjusted to reflect the days you just dropped. However, if you try to drop over a holiday you'll get an error message on iCrew saying to contact your chief pilot. This is when a form of some sort is required. In addition, if you attempt to drop more than 30 days in a row you need to fill out a form or send in a letter.

I dropped about 6 months last year and all it took was a simple letter from my command saying the dates I was to be gone. My CP took this 6 months were dropped, no questions. No one ever checked up on me (that I'm aware of) either.

There is a list of dates (at least there used to be) on DeltaNet that represented the "holiday" days that needed CP involement for dropping. If you look around you can probably find it. As I recall there were 15ish days per year.

The policy is definitely a pain in the butt, but I can see why they might need it. I dropped 6 weeks last year to go TDY and had to get CP approval because it included Valentines day. I don't think a lot of guys drop 6 weeks of MIL LV (non-pay by the way) just to get off on Valentines day but a few chumps apparently ruined it for everyone.

I can't find it either. For what it's worth, here's a list of dates referenced in the PWA in which the company doesn't have to allow a authorized personal drop even with excess reserves. I know we're talking MLOA but I'd imagine the "trigger" days are the same or similar.

Remember there is no approval required. Legally all you have to do is notify a representive of the company that you will be on Mil Leave. You don't have to talk to the CP. I would since its only a phone call but its not required. All you have to tell the CP is you will be on mil leave and the dates however the first call to scheduling is all that is legally required. If you don't talk to the CP however I would expect to be required to produce orders on return from the leave. If they request orders or other documentation you have to produce it but not until you return.
