Glad I'm not an Ole Miss fan, glad I'm not a LSU fan. That last game was fun because I wanted LSU to win but I love it they looked sooo bad.

Actually everyone has been very professional since the announcement. It kind of sounds like about half the Comair pilots will be in the unemployment line soon. Correct, the half that got hired after JC stepped on his duck. |
Hey Carl
With all those engines you have, how does a 747 crash??? Cant remember when one crashed on its own. They only seem to get shot down, explode in mid air, or hit each other in the fog. I'm extremely sorry about the UPS crash. At first I thought it was a friend of mine who passed. Fortunately he's was not involved. I was freaked out for awhile though cuz I knew his schedule took him to Dubai last week.......I still remember my first day flying freight. As I was filling out my newhire paperwork the chief pilots phone rang and his face turned white as a ghost. He excused me for a few minutes cuz one of our pilots flew into a mountain and was killed....all for $7.50 an hour. Sorry everyone. I just read some more about the UPS accident. Now I know about the smoke in the cockpit. Scary stuff. |

Has anyone rode the Jumpseat from Bos to Bermuda? Are we allowed in the cockpit on intl flts or must there be a seat in back? Thanks.

So does the company have to be in compliance with the PWA Staffing Requirements that are posted on the Flt Ops page? Just curious, as it says that Dec 2010 requires roughly 260 DTW 320 FO's and I'm supposed to move up in category by about 50 numbers from Oct to Dec!
Doesn't seem like they'll be able to get all those bodies trained and in position by December. |
They have to be in compliance with the PBS staffing formula and they should be. What you see in the projected head count is their ideal number.
Projected Category lists are just that projected, and frankly they are always changing. |

It's interesting to also see a big push at some of the other carriers to change their subsidiary flying, both by management and the pilot groups. It made sense to farm out a few turbo props for the ultra short feeder routes, but with long range jets now in use, basically all carriers have become two carriers in one thus lowering the efficiency of both. I think managment has finally figured that out. Remember when the E175's were coming out, Delta was going to buy a bunch of those for I think it was SkyWest or ASA. Our MEC told management that our pilots would fly those. Delta quickly responded that they couldn't afford the pay rates our pilots demanded. Our pay rates happened to be $2 less than theirs, but that didn't sway them at all. I think management is finally starting to wake up to the sobering cost of a second airline ownership or lease. As every pilot knows, jets are very inefficient on short routes. P.S. My shortest scheduled flight ever was in a 767-300 from Miami to Ft Lauderdale. Scheduled at 6 minutes of flight time. It took us 11. I can't remember if we even raised the gear. :D Talking about an inefficient flight. |
