Sure. Change your sexual orientation. Say you're a lesbian, and you want your girlfriend on your medical policy.

Or join the military. Supposedly we're cool with that as well these days. You can even get base housing. Not to mention we welcome your transgendered and hermaphodite types. We've become Denmark....not that anything's wrong with Denmark.

No. They're not. RJ Captains pushing 40 are now more the rule than the exception. They have families. They have kids they need to provide for. They will fight.... vigorously... against any attempt to limit their growth at the regional airline level. Additionally, they will fight.... vigorously.... to take as much of your flying as they can get. For the most part, they cannot afford to (or simply do not want to) start over... Do not underestimate this group. They are very large and are dangerously close to having a majority vote in ALPA national. To write them off as misguided kids is foolish. Make no mistake... the RJ lifers very much have the ear of ALPA national.

(Sorry if Im repeating someone else. I'm several pages behind)

Me too (that is retired from the military). Nothing wrong with Denmark. I just don't want our military to become it. Love the girls and the night life. Great place. Don't have much respect for their military prowess, however.:D

Don't forget, we NOT a union. We are an association. If we were a union, we'd be ALPU (pronounced AL-POO). Uh, come to think of it....

Of course the hits when I started college was the Macarena, Celine Dion was annoying people with Because You Loved Me, C'mon N Ride it (the train) was very popular, Eric Clapton was singing about Change the World which was a far cry from the Eric Clapton songs you wish you could play, Jewell was talking about saving your soul and we were talking about Jewell, Hootie and the Blowfish were annoying people and I think 2pac was still alive. All of this was the year...

DO NOT be hating on Hootie my brother. The rest of that music crap is muey bueno. But Hootie and I have a history...being from Charleston and all, and back in the day, when music was music and aviation was....well, it used to be cool.

I used to stumble uptown from my South of Broad apartment after a two-week trip flying C-141s around the globe and stand in peanut shells with my cheap beer in a plastic cup to listen to Hootie when they were playing to nobody. And now, they're playing to nobody and I still stand in peanut shells and drink cheap beer in a plastic cup...buts its in my home in SoCal. My wife is not happy.

In fact, that's Darius Rucker on the tail of the Alaskan jets! Don't be hating the boyz from Carolina.

Here is the usual response at road shows when memrat is imminent and the new contract has ****ty scope language.

"Don't vote the entire contract up or down on a single issue, you have to look at the contract and evaluate it as a whole."

Scope gets labelled as a "single issue" that is not important enough to vote down the rest of the contract.

I have no problem voting NO on a contract with ****ty scope, but I've been on both the inside and outside of the MEC during negotiations. Pilots need to ignore the usual BS during roadshows and vote NO if they don't like their single issue. Scope has been number one on my list for almost 2 decades.

P.S. Can we hire the author of the Negotation videos as our Negotiating Chairman?

Heyas,

You can have the best pay rates and QoL and other contract items in the industry...doesn't mean dick if your job was outsourced because of lax scope and you're sitting in the unemployment line.

You don't have to consider scope a "single issue" item, but geeze, you want to make sure it's not the weak link in the chain, either. There's no point in buying the latest wizzbang hi-def flat screen TV when your hovel doesn't have electricity or cable, no matter how good a bargain it is.

Cross posted from another thread

...Eight major mainland US bases
The new airline will have eight major bases spread right across the US from Los Angeles and San Francisco on the West Coast to New York and Washington on the East Coast via Denver, Houston, Chicago and Cleveland. Of these, Cleveland is the smallest...

...The new United will serve Europe non-stop from Chicago O’Hare (seven destinations), Denver (one), Houston (four), Los Angeles (one), Newark (27), San Francisco (two) and Washington Dulles (11). The 53 routes will serve 28 airports in Europe (Delta serves 31) in 15 countries. Four routes are served with at least three daily flights. Three of these are to London Heathrow (from Chicago , Newark and Washington ) with the other route being from Washington to Frankfurt . Before the end of this year, the Continental route between Newark and Heathrow is scheduled to increase to five daily flights.

Twice as many flights as Delta to Asia.
A similar analysis of non-stop flights between the US and Asia shows that the new airline is by far the biggest single carrier with twice as many flights as its nearest rival, Delta.
Of United’s 27 non-stop routes to Asia , 23 are served at least daily. Nine countries are served non-stop with Japan (70 daily departures) and China (49 daily departures) accounting for nearly two-thirds of all flights.

Delhi, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Seoul and Sydney are other major Asian cities served by the new airline as it looks to develop its global presence further.
The hub cities alone read like a dreamlist of hubs...

On top of that CAL has more departures total from NYC than DAL...

In addition to having twice as many departures to Asia, UA just got AI (antitrust immunity) with ANA so that's on top of everything else...

With good management the new United will be a formidable opponent.
Especially one with the DOT in it's pocket...

Cheers
George
