So I see we are going to start flying the 737 to Bogota from NYC. We currently have the 757 on it and if I am not mistaken we have 3 pilots on board for the saftey factor of the flight not because of rest requirements. So moving it to the 737 alleviates the saftey?

DTW-PEK is a route authority we are currently flying via NRT. It used to be a non-stop on the 747 and it was the senior tirip at fNW.

MIA-AMS was flown at fNW by a DC-10 and later it was moved to MartinAir, a subsidiary of KLM.

HNL-NGO is a fNW route that was purchased from HA. It was served by 747 and DC-10 and at one point was a very senior trip HNL-NGO-GUM-NGO-HNL.

Where does a RP sit in a 737?

I would suspect a KLM, ALL Nippon or AirFrance widebody of some sort.

They stay in the forward closet along with the FO's overnight bag.

Why do you need a 3rd pilot? Is it more than 8 hours? Doubt it.

What does the "safety factor of the flight" mean?

I don't see a RP being necessary since the block time looks to be about 6-7 hours.

That's a haul to be crammed in that thing for so long. I remember doing a 7+ block on the -800 from BOS-LAX one time - not fun.

Bogata is a very unusual airport with many problems and issues. It was felt that since the flight was flown back side of the clock putting a RP pilot onboard was a good safety practice. Details were worked out between the company and union. It was and is a good practice given the airport and the rest issues on that rotation. Its a nice example of doing something right even when not required by the FAA.

There should be a third pilot on any flight that does JFK-BOG - there is a Memo of Understanding (#13) that specifies the route, not the aircraft type.
