Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
True, but one would be an additional assessment, whereas they are not going to increase our personal taxes each year for a service that will compliment current procedures.
As I recall, the ROI was going to be achieved through fuel savings from the reduced weight and maintenance costs. The maintenance savings was big. They went from something like 27 line-replaceable-units to six. That also cut hundreds of pounds from the a/c. The mod back then I remember seemed very cheap at around $250k per aircraft. Do that to over 200+ aircraft and the expense up front is large. But the savings from the weight and mx, would pay for itself in 3 years. However, back then the NWA merger hadn't gone through and they wanted ROI's that were shorter. Perhaps now, they will look at the longer term savings now that these aircraft are here to stay till at least 2020.

First, I am a little lost, what Post?
The reason for this is NEXGEN. FAA ATC wants to institute curvilinear 3-5 mile visual approaches into the major US airports. Steve D is the chair of the ATA NexGen committee. DAL has requested to start in FEB 2011 these approaches in ATL. SouthWest currently has the ability to do these approaches. If we want to play ball, we have to have the avionic reliability and features the flat glass brings.
Very true, and the upgrades to the 88/90 and 757/767 fleets just became more affordable. We also get another reason for the a ROI.
