Yep... they won't admit to it until it is posted. We hire the previous year for the next year's flying.

That's kinda weird the crap usually comes out of his mouth, not out of his nose

I'll repeat what Jim Graham said in Sept 2010: 300-600 new hires in 2011. Just two weeks ago the last proposal sent forward was 800. If there is a 1-3% capacity increase, there will be an increase in pilots.

We'd hire this fall for the Summer 2012 schedule.

Exactly what I heard about three to four months ago.

Delta guys,

In 2003, AMR parked an entire fleet of F-100's which resulted in mass furloughs. In 2007, UAL parked an entire fleet of B737's which resulted in mass furloughs.

As someone that is considering coming to the Big D in the future, what is the likelyhood that something like that could happen with say the MD-80's.

I know it is all unknown, but my biggest concern would be luckily getting on, and then gas goes up and a fleet gets parked resulting in mass furloughs.

Any thoughts?

If they did, they would have a gaping hole in their route network. They would need to pull down at least two to three bases to make the network have any efficiency. She's an old bird, but she is part of our fleet backbone.

Delta didn't furlough in 2008 during the oil spike to $147/barrel, but they easily could have furloughed. They've contained capacity, making a $1.4B profit for 2010. DAL has over 3,000 retirements scheduled in the next 10 years; 6,000 in the next 15 years. I think you'd be in good shape.

Ahh come one now, the 88 is like the neighborhood MILF.
Sure she's been around the block more than a few times and you'll probably more than likely catch something from her, but the old gal still has a few years on her.

What are your other options that you are going to compare this possibility to?

Yep-I'd be more concerned about the company trying to keep up with hiring for a looong time. :)
and I think it's more like 6K in the next 10 (more if the stock market does well.)
