Exactly! I love the EJets but I would rather see even the darn Saabs at mainline. No subcontracting is the ticket. ;)

It's no different from when a corporation donates money to get a politician elected and then that politician gives that corporation a no bid contract or a tax break.

Good for the goose, good for the gander.

Jeff Skiles, the co-pilot who helped crash land the airliner in the Hudson in January of 2009, was one of the speakers. The crowd cheered when he said, “we didn’t abandon those passengers to save themselves; we all worked together to save everybody. That’s a lesson that people in this Capitol building need to learn.”
Skiles continued, “this budget bill will strip Wisconsin public workers of the protections and rights enjoyed by other Americans. This bill will regulate public workers to second-class status in America. Are we going to let that happen?”
In unison, the crowd chanted “No!”
Skiles concluded his speech by stating, “Let’s not forget how this budget crisis came about, and let’s not let this governor and this Republican legislature shift the blame for what’s wrong with America from corporate profiteers and instead demonize our teachers, our nurses and our public-sector employees.”

Civil servant unions are not the same as private industry unions. In fact, they are diametrically opposed. We don't want to go down that road AT ALL. Skiles is wrong on this one and way out of his league. I sure as hell hope we don't adopt a similar approach. We'll lose that argument every time.

Make no mistake about it (Lee Moak's favorite phrase). THE REST OF THE DC-9 FLEET IS BEING REPLACED BY THREE DIFFERENT DELTA CONNECTION CARRIERS THUS RESULTING IN LOST MAINLINE DELTA JOBS. There is nothing we can do about it, but we can at least acknowledge the fact that our scope is the worst in the industry and it is still under attack. Our seniority list is going to shrink. We probably will not furlough as we will have a lot of pilots retiring in the next few years, but there will be no movement for those of us at the bottom. It's not a coincidence that Delta announced 24 new 70 seat airframes around the same time as announcing the remaining 30 DC-9's retiring early. I love flying at Delta and I'm grateful to have a job, but getting off reserve and making more than $80,000/year would be nice. I spend a lot of time away from home commuting to reserve. I can't hold a line anywhere so for me reserve is not a choice.

Well said hockey.

Makes me wonder about the Delta having the worst scope. I don't know who has the worst scope, Delta, United or USAir. But why do I have a gut feeling that those with the worst scope are at the bottom of the quality rankings and those with the best at the top.

It's a whipsaw. They all want that checks and balance and maybe I need to brush up on Flying The Line I and II but I'm sure the RLA was set up to provide that checks and balance but now in the airline industry we sit here fighting both scope erosion and the RLA.

Sorry but the analogies aren't the same. When a Corp gives to a pol, the pol doesn't end up being their boss/ When a Union gives to a pol and the union in this case is a civil service union, then the Pol gets elected and becomes the "boss".

I find it interesting that the FED GS types are prohibited from collective bargaining, yet they make more money on average than their private sector counterparts and have a pension when there are very few companies still offering them.

I disagree. Two wrongs do not make a right.

Capital cronyism is as wrong as any other government giveaway to political contributors.

Although the true identity of the one who said this might be in doubt the words are spot on:

The American Republic will endure until politicians realize they can bribe the people with their own money.

Longer quote: A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing, always to be followed by a dictatorship, then a monarchy.

Uh, forefathers? Try current employees. A couple of these might solve the problem.

I had a talk with a Captain once that was pretty enlightening. He told me what his Captain buddy's are saying about what they'd accept in the next contract and it'd make you mad. Made him mad. I like Captains with SCOPE lynards.

Want to know how many RJs Delta awarded during this 4-year timeframe? Zero.

Comair's commitment letter expired two months ago and within days Delta awarded aircraft to SkyWest/ASA and Republic. Now, apparently, Compass as well.

It may be a play for negotiations, or maybe Delta just had to wait until January 2011 because they have no intention to grow Comair.

Possible. While I wouldn't discount the possibility of DL management trying to play games with one particular DCI carrier, I'd still bet that 95% or more of any conspiracy theory that might actually be real is aimed 95% or greater at the mainline pilot group. This one could be both however.

I'm suprised that Comair hasn't gone "final solution" with an extreme backstabbing predatory bargaining mentality after watching so many "deal me an ace" underbidders take not only growth but existing flying while basking in many cases in the glory of 2 year or less upgrades while they themselves are facing 10 year reserve FO's and furloughs soon. Sort of a "write any terms you want and we will sign it, provided it is a 20 year deal with 100% of DCI growth and agressive airframe transfers built in" type of thing.

That is the kind of "patern bargaining that is going on anyway, it is only a matter of time before one carrier nukes the entire industry once and for all in a last ditch attempt at contractual self defense, and maybe a little revenge/hubris thrown in as well. Perhaps that goes against the bylaws of the DCI brotherhood meetings or whatever they are called though.
