A job as an airline pilot is a very contradictory job really.

For the most part you need a degree and lots of experience to do it professionally, but most universities see an aviation program as nothing more than a votech "truck driving" education and beneath them.
And I'm not making that up, I heard that myself from a major university dean that has one during a private meeting about the direction of one aviation program.
We're white collar and heavily unionized.

We, like baseball players, do something professionally that other people just do for fun.

I don't know, there are more contradictions but I think it's time we stand up for ourselves and do something more meaningful...

I will start with what will happen in the near future, when you and I turn our problems solving abilities away from our salary concerns and toward fixing the commercial aviation system.
I am making a change in the way commercial aviation operates in the United States, and the World. I know you, my fellow professional pilots, have a passion for this industry as I do. I would like to team with you, my fellow professionals, and move the present air transportation system into this century.
The new system includes the four main stakeholders; the commercial airlines, the professional pilots, the passengers, both precious and inert, and of course, the government. The professional pilots and the commercial airlines will have the largest role...

OR...

we could just realize that there is always someone who has done this younger, better and faster than we could ever do it so let's just focus on having fun and become airline pirates. argh...

Denny/DLPilot,

Thanks for the information. I dropped the June trip and picked up a May trip independent of each other. I also did not know that a May pick up would automatically drop a conflict in the following month - I just assumed the pick-up would be denied, good to know.

So what do you think the chances are of us getting the old Sky Club into the pilot crewroom?
The only thing missing from our current crewroom is the chalk outline of a dead body.

Also will continue to operate the shuttle out of the MAT.

Saw that, I guess LCC didn't want it for their operation. I think the original plan had us giving them the MAT and 3 gates (8-10) on D concourse. Now we'll take all of C, 1 gate at D and the shuttle at the MAT. Why then build a 600' connection from C to D? I guess that helps the jobs program.
