Thanks. A little more of the "qualitative" and anecdotal but, that's kind of what I was getting at. I think most of us probably know people who are changing travel plans based on this. It will be interesting (maybe a bit of a euphemism) to see the actual numbers with regard to trip cancels and effects on loads as this thing progresses.

Agreed. I am getting e-mails from people telling me what their companies are doing. Just thought I would share.

THEN, once everybody stops traveling, the virus will not transmit as well, possibly stopping the pandemic.

THEN, people will start to fly again, and since they are behind the curve on buying tickets, they will have to purchase on shorter notice and therefore will spend more per ticket!!

In my happy place this is just a hiccup......

Disclaimer: This post has no real proof of reality, its just for fun.

Nice work - I've been looking at this all wrong :)

And my contribution to the "half full" camp: With a smaller paycheck, I'll definitely pay less taxes..................... which is nice.

WHO just raised the pandemic alert level to a level 4. U.S. is advising against travel to Mexico and the WHO for the first time ever is urging that unneccesary travel to anywhere, yes anywhere, in the world not be taken. I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but I think this is now a serious threat to the airline industry.

I agree.

Not good in this type of downturn.

Drudge has been having conniptions since Saturday over this. At some point, you can't read the headlines.

WHO: GIVES GREENLIGHT TO GO AHEAD AND NOT QUARANTINE ALL MAJOR US CITIES AND END ALL TRAVEL WORLDWIDE AS THIS IS DEFINATELY MAYBE GOING TO GET SIGNIFICANTLY WORSE IF EVERYTHING ELSE GOES WRONG.... developing.

Think I'm playing? Go to drudgereport.com.

It feel likes its 12/31/1999 all over again. I don't think Delta and the airline industry can win. I just don't anymore. It was 9/11, airlines went Chapter 11, then the economy boomed sending oil prices into a bubble that choked airlines again, then bubble burst oil fell but nobody came to fly, now they might come back but credit collapse, new flu epidemic, cap and trade, and an outbreak of pilots slitting their wrist has aircraft headed to VCV but not to get painted.

You just hope that science has advanced enough to deal with this in short order.

Good thing school is almost out for the summer. Might just let them all go home early.

CDC Recommendations

CDC has NOT recommended that people avoid travel to Mexico at this time. If you are planning travel to Mexico, follow these recommendations to reduce your risk of infection and help you stay healthy.
Monitor the International Situation

I think the news agencies should be held liable for creating a panic and not just reporting the news. The agencies can't even agree on how many cases there have been.

iceman49 04-27-2009 01:30 PM

This appears the latest from WHO...there is no recommendation within this update to curtail normal travel, see paragraph 2

Swine influenza - update 3

27 April 2009 -- The current situation regarding the outbreak of swine influenza A(H1N1) is evolving rapidly. As of 27 April 2009, the United States Government has reported 40 laboratory confirmed human cases of swine influenza A(H1N1), with no deaths. Mexico has reported 26 confirmed human cases of infection with the same virus, including seven deaths. Canada has reported six cases, with no deaths, while Spain has reported one case, with no deaths.
Further information on the situation will be available on the WHO website on a regular basis.
WHO advises no restriction of regular travel or closure of borders. It is considered prudent for people who are ill to delay international travel and for people developing symptoms following international travel to seek medical attention, in line with guidance from national authorities.
There is also no risk of infection from this virus from consumption of well-cooked pork and pork products. Individuals are advised to wash hands thoroughly with soap and water on a regular basis and should seek medical attention if they develop any symptoms of influenza-like illness.

I agree. I still don't understand why CNN and FOX have to take this and run with it like we are all gonners. I'm no more worried about the swine flu than I am the regular flu. If I get it, I'll take some Tylenol, drink some Nyquil, and in a few days I'll be fine. I don't think it should be a big deal. What has me worried is when the WHO bumps this to a level 6, which I think they will before the week is over, international travel will be halted. If the WHO doesn't require it, all countries will recommend travel not be taken and the airline industry will be flushed down the toilet faster than all of us can imagine.
