Our contractual pay is from first movement of the aircraft for intent to fly until the last movement of the aircraft arriving at the gate. What would you have DALPA do? The contract survey is coming out in a few months. Make it a item you want changed. There is nothing at the moment for us to do since the company is in full compliance with the contract. Actually the parking brake change will more then likely net pilots more block time then having it tied to the beacon. In Europe if you leave the beacon on at the gate the ground crews will not approach the aircraft and they will not bring the jetway up.
Suggestion from the peanut gallery You could do what that little ALPA LCC on the C and D gates does; If the door is closed you get paid .... Tell RA that if you're not getting paid and the APU decides to burst into flame, you'll quietly gather your belongings, call him and walk off the airplane. He gets paid for all of his duties. Right ? |

Well I'm glad it works for you. I guess your category must be very well staffed? It won't always be that way, just wait. BTW, the very reason we only get paid 70 for reserve is because...some guys only work 6, 7 days.

That doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy feeling at contract time, when SWA gets over 80 hrs for reserve plus 25% more an hr. Come on Timbo, you sound like thats just the way it should be.
I didn't get that at all. He is just relating what it has been in the past. Denny |

Denny,
He says, the very reason we only get paid 70 for reserve is because...some guys only work 6, 7 days. Most guys work right up to 70 hrs, the key is some guys. So his quote above says that he thinks thats its accepted what we get paid for reserve. I think it should be higher and would like to think our pilot group would too. So what do you not get at all |

Anyone flown with the new ACARS yet. I did yesterday on a roundtrip. Pay now is no longer linked to door closure or beacon on. Official out time is now tied to brake release, and on arrival, brakes being set. We doubled checked it and watched the ACARS send the "on" and "in" message as soon as the brakes were set. One engine was not even finished being shut down and door didn't open for another 4 minutes. The crew personally left the plane about 14-15 minutes later.
Pardon me if I am wrong, but aren't we still held responsible for aircraft until passengers are off, doors open and checklists complete? This is a sneaky way for management to get another .3- .5 hours of pay for free from each crew, each leg, system wide. ALPA needs to not just "look into" this but actually do something about it. The trick is to recycle the brake after the cabin door is closed... same with either keeping it released or recycle it right before the cabin door opens. This way we can get paid and block out instead of flashing the beacon for 30 minutes waiting for pushback and not following thechecklist We can finally use the beacon the way it's supposed to be used on this one and actually follow the checklist. One of the many things that make me twitch on our stuff that is being corrected finally. This way we can get paid and block out instead of flashing the beacon for 30 minutes waiting for pushback and not following the checklist (thus not attracting the ire of roving ACP's looking for heads to roll). Mo money, mo on time. Good all around. |
