Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
The DALPA opener will be crucial. If they low ball it, the group may turn on them. The best way to get their attention is to sign the card for the DPA. Send them a message, that we are serious. They will fight for at least Southwest +1 for the 737 in the first year (not at the end) of the contract, and then tiighten Scope, code shares and RJs. If they don't, the DPA will. I was told our dues equalled many millions of dollars last year. With that, the DPA can rent some good negotiators probably. Send in the card, and send a message.

I'm sure they're not going to let RAH off the hook for gaming the system. It's too blatant and too precedent setting to allow RAH to continue as a DCI. Especially with all that the NMB provided in their ruling.
RAH is 1 airline from Frontier to Shuttle to Chautauqua and our section 1 does not allow an airline to fly for us and fly Airbus A320s and A319s. To not fight this would be suicidal. Because it would be an admission of surrender, inept enforcement capabilities or worse yet a horrifically written PWA on ALPA's brilliant lawyers part, or all of the above.
But how do you go forward with a leadership team that either won't fight, can't fight or trusts lawyers who can't write?
Either way, it'd be a suicidal decision and I just don't think DALPA will go down that road.

fwiw, the reason I harp on the MD88 being 1:1 pay with SWA is because why pay our largest and highest paying narrowbody the same pay that SWA pays for an aircraft that is the smallest narrowbody in our fleet and only used domestically.

That was awkward though. I didn't believe him. He's iceman, he's just luring Maverick in. He flies as cold as ice or something.

Hypothetical situation . . . you're riding in the back of an MD88. The flight is late, and the cabin is stifling hot. The captain makes the welcome PA in the cabin stating he's flown fighters for [number greater than 20] years and thus likes to spend a lot of time upside down in airplanes, and on this flight plans on doing a roll after takeoff . . . do you laugh?

They already have. After almost 5 years of negotiations the NMB kicked them to the curb and iced them ending all efforts at mediation. With zero progress and no hope of progress the pilot group fired those who came up with that strategy and put in place a more moderate group. That group in turn hired ALPA to assist in the negotiations and provide the political clout to get the process back to the NMB and moving again.
Formal and highly publicized "openers" are pointless. They've become counter-productive and actually a detriment to getting a final agreement.
Now that Moak has ushered in his new age labor relations with constructive engagement and the recovery compact and all that, I wouldn't be surprised if this time around we collaborated with our management counterparts and decide to dispense with the kabuki ritual of "openers".

Keep closed negotiations closed.
Read all the materials, do some of your own research, spend real time thinking about the contract survey and your "dealbreakers". Take the time to fill out the survey. Be ready to show for SPC events when called upon.
Always remember that family time is important and that time spent away from home is time you'll never get back.

If you are on SWA, yes. On DAL, you start writing a letter....
I just want an opener from DALPA that reflects what we deserve. I haven't been hearing flattering numbers lately. If the Airtran guys can get SWA wages, I think we deserve them too. The best way to steer DALPA in the right direction is to give them something to think about, ie the DPA. We need to get their attention, and sending in the card means you'd like a vote, not that you're ready to throw DALPA away. How has SWAPA done for their pilots? Our dues numbers are huge, and if DALPA doesn't want to respect what we want, then we should seek other alternatives. I really hope the DALPA opener is positive and reflective of our wants. I won't let them manage my expectations. I will fill out that survey and I have expectations of my own, as should we all.
So what do you really want from your bargaining agent?
