Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
My Captain is a DPA supporter and I'm on the fence about it. We talked at length about his perceptions of SWAPA since he was a prior ALPA guy for 15 years. His response: couldn't be happier. He says their relationship with MGT is good, there is a very mutually goal oriented approach between the parties. He very much likes the fact that SWAPA only cares about their guys and has no other groups to contend with. His dues are lower and he says they are voracious with their Scope clause.
Adam Smith identified the consumers problems with unions, we'll get together and raise prices. Lets admit, thats true. But at best we as pilots have gotten together to raise safety, but not wages. For the collective good of us all we've compromised the rights of the individual airlines, the original airlines, to do what is in their best interest. If anything our national union leadership, ironically made up of people we do not elect and who do not fly the line, should only promote and defend the legacy carriers. To represent anyone and everyone is a maddening mistake fostered from ordinary greed. We're burning this candle from both ends.

Once again, that customer satisfaction is a direct correlation to poor control of outsourcing on our part. Time to sunset those agreements. Our managers don't care since they won't be here and are just looking for short term gains, but we should be keenly interested as this is the future of our careers continuing to be squandered.

No kidding! and its not just rj's....pulled into dfw the other night 30 min late cuz of mx out of atl. We landed right behind Alaska, they drove right up to the gate but ops told us we (fully loaded 757) would have to wait for a while becuse they were short staffed. We ended up waiting 30 mins and the pax were ****ed! the ops guy told us that his boss said it doesnt matter whats happening at delta the alaska contract always takes priority. By the way these are DELTA employees!

Management uses the selective distribution of "privileged information" to control our union.
Same with the pilot seat on the BOD. Its something ALPA National wants as part of their political agenda so they can feel like they are taking part in "corporate governance". In reality, its used by management to draw the union into their schemes to lower the cost of labor.
We're dreaming if we think management is ever going to provide the union guys with some confidential report saying we could afford to give the pilots a 50% raise. There will however be plenty of secret data showing how critical it is to control our labor costs because fuel hedging is so difficult to master.
One of the best and most accurate posts I have ever read.
Tip of the hat to you sir.

Well, that's just sad.

I wonder if he was given the job by National to bring down our expectations, so a small win would be exactly what they were looking for? They did what they said, right? A small win, is a win......
He likes to compare us to Unical, saying we are higher paid. Why doesn't he compare us to TACA in El Salvador? We have a much better contract than they do. How has Unical done with their SOC? We did ours in record time (leverage given away). We did it that fast to make sure our company could realize those synergies faster, giving us a better chance of restoring a lot of what we lost. But he wants to compare us to peers that are dysfunctional, that don't really have a good business plan, that will take years to sort out. What we really need is a lot more FNWA blood in the NC. They had it right, and got things done, without going to 4th floor kid's birthday parties.
Slow needs to turn that attitude around, and tell the union that they need to be more proactive with their major client, the one that gives it more than $30 million a year in dues. He needs to repeat over and over "help me, help YOU." Get that survey out NOW, and start representing, instead of managing expectations.
