Galdangit, ACL! Your silence is deafening. I have no other choice but to try to draw you out.

I think I am anxious about trying to stay based in DTW, because if the company moves the -9's, who know where I can go. So, when I had a few free moments, I came up with a prediction of what A/C would be in what bases in a year or two. Here what I came up with. I didn't take the time to try to seperate the 7ER, 75/76 or the -300/-400 or whatever it's called. ACL, feel free to shoot it down. Aloha~

NYC

Including the -400, 330's and the DC-9

CVG

Personally, I don't see how MEM and CVG make it. But, wouldn't be surprised if something in Texas opened back up. Are you happy now, Super? :)

I think New nailed it - CVG and MEM are probably toast. However MEM may have some tactical value in providing an alternative to ATL, which may help keep the costs down in ATL. Or then again, maybe not.

Scoop

For that reason alone given the corruption in Atlanta, a slightly milder form then DTW, I do believe we will keep MEM. For Delta to come out and say they'd shift a lot of flying to MEM just shows that its not a behind the scenes threat, its a public threat.

I think they will make it - because of the politics. Delta said they would keep MEM and CVG as bases.

The company didn't say how big they would be. The cost of a base doesn't have to be big - the fixed costs are a few rooms for offices, a secretary or two, and a CP. The variable costs are the deadheading costs because the base doesn't have much flying (see CVG right now). You save money by not displacing people and paying moving costs.

This cost can be minor compares to the media coverage of "closing a base".

I also hope for something in TX!

In his chat last week, Ed reaffirmed Delta's commitment to MEM, he wasn't asked about CVG but I suspect he'd say the same thing (politics). If they pull down CVG any more, they might as well close the base; and if they move the 320s there they'll displace some very senior bubbas on the 737 which might just force them to close the base as well. As opposed to either the training costs or the moving costs.
