But if SWA wants out of them they will get out of them one way or another. We could use them for sure, although its not worth selling our souls for.

And no matter how SWA dumps them, if they do, they will very likely be replaced by 737's anyway. I doubt SWA got AT just to quickly downsize by 86 airframes. They are biting their tongues trying to resist the urge to grow as it is. They don't want to dump that capacity, they just want to dump their second fleet type. So SW/AT won't have extra pilots because of that and I highly doubt DL would get very many extra pilot positions even if we got the 717's. At the very most we might recapture a little bit of the DCI outsource carnage and stagnation that every DL pilot has been paying for one way or another.

I wouldn't want to see SWA dump all those planes in one day, furlough 900 tranny pilots and then DL spool up 900 new hires just for those planes as pure mainline growth. But we all know that is not going to happen. It will take time for SWA/T to get out of all those planes as well as Xfering them to someone else, and 737 replacements will definately be a part of that deal.

Who are the 717's being leased from? Is it Boeing or some 3rd party? If it's Boeing, I can see where they -might- take them back, as a down payment on lots of new 737's. If it's a 3rd party, well, they would have to find a replacement lessor, right? And for about the same rate, or lose money on the deal.

They would be getting 737 replacements anyway. 86 of them. Throw in another 14 and you have the magical 100 number that makes for massive discounts and incentives. There is no way SWA will Xfer those leases to someone else at full value. Boeing will give them massive relief to take them off their hands and then Boeing will likely give them away for a song to get them off their books since no one else wants them.

I doubt it. Your experience is common for this time of year.
