But is ALPA even interested, willing or able to deliver this though? If we reign in the AS code share abuse, doesn't ALPA have to sign off on something that "harms" another ALPA group? If we reign in RJ outsourcing, doesn't ALPA have to do the same thing?

Speaking of the insane 255 modern DC-9-10 fleet at the DCIs, a large portion of which are ALPA, has DALPA "met and conferred" with the other MEC's yet?

If not, when? If so, what was said?

If we "aren't allowed to know" then that means DCI MEC's will be privy to DALPA negotiating strategies and knowledge that the DL pilots won't be allowed to know.

Likewise, regardless of the secrecy of it all, if C2012 does not significantly reduce outsourcing (or maybe doesn't even reduce it at all!) a very strong case can be made for the inherent ALPA conflict of interest that many, DPA supporters or not, have been saying is an irreconcilable flaw to begin with.

Ask yourself if you really have faith in ALPA national and/or DALPA (at all levels, not just some great reps here or there, which DALPA absolutely does have) to be willing and able to fight hard for scope recapture. Many doubt ALPA at any level has that resolve and/or ability but that's technically just opinion at this point. But the comprehensive lack of specifics is a fact.

When we ask ALPA/DALPA about scope recapture we get responses that would rival a career politician with a glass of water sitting at a long table in front of a Congressional inquiry.

Now, maybe ALPA/DALPA will hit a home run WRT all the things you mentioned, including scope. But if that doesn't happen, and maybe even if things get worse (but even if they stay at the same level of unacceptability) then will it be better or worse to at that point have a potential alternative that's ben saying "see I told you so" that at least has some momentum and 4000 cards already in the cue, or have to start over on the ground floor? Or try Teamsters? Or another in house? Or go rogue with TWU?

I don't think the "donut" drive is much of a threat if ALPA/DALPA does right by this pilot group. It will fizzle out on its own at that point, as it should. But if we don't take a VERY significant bite out of outsourcing, its may be time to call BINGO and go to an alternate.
This is my line of thinking as well. Also, I think this notion that there cannot be unity behind ALPA's push for a great contract with DPA in the wings is pure nonsense. I actually see it as a positive, giving management more incentive to bargain in good faith. You see, management would prefer ALPA over any other so called "rogue" union. They are smart enough to know if ALPA drops the ball they will get something other than ALPA in short order.

Having DPA as a quick viable option helps keep ALPA and management honest during contract 2012 negotiations. Let me also add, there seems to be a genuine lack of leadership from ALPA coming up to this contract. So far by what has been said (but more by what has not been said) most of the pilots I have talked with feel isolated from the process and disillusioned by the unknown goals. ALPA guys here complain about lack of unity yet their words and actions seem to be one of the biggest catalysts for such. That's my two bits.

Set the parking brake if your that upset about it, I could give a sh!t when you think I should and should not wear my hat lol.

I left it at F4 the other day in MSP, CPSC called a bunch of times and then it just ended up on my doorstep 2 time zones away. Like the worst boomerang I've ever had!

relax-
"relax" Now that is funny coming from a guy that just posted using an expletive concerning the entire discussion. Oh, and the proper use of the phrase is "couldn't give a ___" If you could, that means that.. well.. you could actually care less.. or give a ___.. or whatever. Just trying to help.

I find it incredibly funny.. no... sad.. that so many are so offended by the hat.. it's just a hat. It does not define who I am, but I am paid to wear it, and when it is no longer a part of the uniform, I might use mine for a Starbucks tray too... Again, just trying to help.

Hmmmmm interesting dilemma.... You get a negotiated contract with ALPA (and the company's benefit is that it can move forward and make lots of money), even though that contract might.. will cost more... or.. a rogue union like USAPA or APA that guarantees your pilots sub standard working conditions and lower pay. (But the executives themselves will STILL get rich) Yeah, I am guessing that dilemma keeps Doug Parker up at nights too...

On another note I might be moving to the DTW area soon. Wondering if any of the locals can tell me the nice areas to live, good school districts, etc. Also will consider northern OH,
Ann Arbor, north of DTW, any advice is welcome, thanks PMs are welcome.

I use to live in Novi- absolutely loved the area. Same can be said for Northville!

When I see a guy without a hat walking through the terminal, it always reminds me of a child holding their breath and stomping their feet.

That last picture is what T'O almost saw in Peachtree City when he came down here to give a townhall meeting a few months back. I think he was expecting to see 40 or 50 people, and 200 angry people showed up. It was entertaining, and also it was good for him to see that most of us won't "settle" for ALPA's "managing our expectation game." Show us a great contract with pay, work rule increases, and scope recovery, or move over. No more "Which one do you want, or what will you give up for it?" schtick. RESTORATION TIME IS HERE. Where is Slowplay or Pineapple to "downplay" all of this and then try to make me feel bad? Get to work on this restoration or go back to the line.

Places I would consider buying a house in.

25-35min to work
Ann Arbor, Saline, Novi, Northville, Plymouth, Livonia, Wixom, Walled Lake, Gross Ile, New Boston, Farmington Hills.

35-45min
Royal Oak, Bloomfield Hills, White Lake, Brighton, Howell, South Lyon

45-60min
Lake Orion, Auburn Hills, Rochester Hills

I have personally lived in Livonia (grew up there), Farmington Hills (2 years), and Royal Oak (currently) and visited friends or family in all the cities I listed. All are safe, clean, and to my knowledge have decent schools.

First, regardless of where we stand, we all have to be unified going into this section 6. We need to all be Delta pilots and not view ourselves through a DPA of DALPA lens. However, to be unified, we need to be informed.

I was astounded to fly with a good guy who:

1. Had no concept of the scope abuse and when we talked about it had grasp of the situation with ALK, AF/KLM and the others. To him scope was just an RJ problem.

Now, as I see it, part of the reason that he is not informed is that DALPA does not see these arrangements as a problem. They, of course, signed of on it and our MEC Chair signed the MOU that extended the AF/KLM rebalancing out several years.

Having an alternate source of information and fact checking is a good thing. It is also important to inform those that have no idea the difference between SWA and UPS benefits compared to ours. I believe this is the source of most of the heart burn that our MEC Communications Chair has now with the DPA. Reference the recent T & G's.

Thus, Jack's idea of keeping a quick and viable option is intelligent. Having a structure in place as a counter balance while we all are unified as Delta pilots asserting ourselves for the contract we deserve is strategically sound.

DPA probably will not get the bump it needs on its own. However, to have the mothballed or easy to constitute mechanism there is going to be benefical.

Particularly when:

The Assesment arrives.

The Opener sucks.

The TA sucks.

Or, when UCAL bails leaving DAL holding the ALPA bag largely alone.
