I know it's considered odd in our subculture, but I swung by the pilot shop last time I was in Atlanta to grab some long-sleeved shirts. I just feel like a kid playing dress up when I wear a short-sleeved shirt with a blazer and tie.

...and as far as hats are concerned, I'll follow my employer's rules for as long as I'm cashing his checks.

I'm beginning to follow you with the long sleeve shirts, Frank. I can't stand the way the short sleeve shirts wad up to give you the "Greaser" look when the coat goes on and off. Plus, since I now get the senior discount at Bob Evans, I don't think I have any cool points left to cash in. As for the hat, I wore it when they said to wear it at NWA, and always thought the medallion made us look like the Kaiser's Sturm Abteilung. Didn't miss it a bit when it was optional, but now realize we really do stand out among the sea of slobs. If we want to lead the industry in pay and benefits, I think looking the part is important.

Probably right here at DAL. Would be no surprise to learn there are those types on our seniority list. I've personally flown with a guy multiple times that regularly plucks his eyebrows and eats them!:eek:

I agree with you and Frank. While I don't wear them anymore, I do agree long sleeves look better with a jacket. That's what I wore all my USAF days....jacket = long sleeve shirt and of course a tie. Short sleeve shirt = no tie.

Now, if we REALLY want to start a 100 page discussion........lets imagine an option of short sleeve shirts and no tie. Then we could get into a discussion of V neck t-shirts vs crew neck t-shirts.:D I was actually at a reception once and listened to two 3 Stars give each other $hit about their t-shirts:eek:

All in good fun.........I'll wear my hat till it's optional, which ain't going to happen anytime soon.

There was a 747 Captain that had some kind of wicked skin disorder a few years back that after several hours airborne, his hand would sneak up his neck and he would start "snacking" on all the flotsam and jetsam molting off his face. He never flew with the same guys twice.

I'll just remind you that George Patton would disagree with you. I agree we have a long way to go getting our training and procedures to fully settle into the merger. But, militarys through the centuries have known that there is something to "look sharp, be sharp"

What do you military guys call your flight uniforms? Bags? I want a bag. I want to wear white socks and shorts and a t-shirt and still look flight ready.

I prefer long sleeve shirts. Of course years ago poor ACL was nearly stoned from wearing long sleeve shirts. He barely survived. Times have changed.

I have little choice but to wear short sleeve shirts because I can't find a long sleeve that's actually long and sometimes the fabric is just chinsy.

As to our summer time attire? It's a fashion faux pas, let's admit it:

For summer time I say we start wearing something new. Last night I posted a hoodie with my own name on it. Now I want something to show off my guns.

Now that I think about it, my problem with our uniform is they don't make it broad enough at the shoulders, big enough in the arms and the inseam is too short.

Patton vs Chesty Puller, no comparison. In fact the modern military has ditched black shoes and the older BDUs so soldiers would spend less time polishing and dry cleaning field uniforms. I would like to think Delta has evolved since the days of Patton.
