However, my question would be, as of today, how many reserves across all categories actually come close to hitting ALV? I really don't know, but is it maybe 10% of all reserves actually get used to the max?

The reason I ask, is that one of the biggest complaints I hear from the Reserves that I fly with is the low reserve guarantee. From what I read, 100% of all Reserves are going to benefit from an increased Reserve guarantee, while perhaps 10% are going to get used and abused.

Again, I don't sit reserve, but all I ever heard was how the reserve guarantee should be raised and short call should be incentivised, which it seems they've done.
I sat reserve for two years starting in 2007. I broke guarantee once and that was 72 hours. Quite a few on the 88 this past winter did not fly for 2 months on reserve.

But what guarantee does the company have that guys will sell X days for more money?? What data can they rely on? The guarantee will already be raised. I don't know. I'll have to see the entire TA.

You can already volunteer to fly on your off day as a reserve pilot via yellow slip.

Negative Ghost Rider. You can't yellow slip on your days off. If line holders won't don't know the reserve game would educate themselves on how it worked they might be in for a real eye opener !!

Good Post,

I have flown reserve on and off for the last 12 years and never even got close to 70 hours in any category I flew in the following bases DFW, LAX, SLC, MCO, unpaid vacation , ATL ,SLC, LAX, but mostly LAX. The ATL narrow-body guys probably have a different experience.

This is why we need to see some solid analysis and get the NC's take on things.

I break guarantee the hard way (meaning working for it...no green slips) on rsv about once a year on average.

I guess I'm just not seeing the doom and gloom on staffing in all this.

He's correct. I've yellowed into a day off before. You don't get the day back.

With our current contract if you submit a YS you most certainly can fly on your X days. You will not have the X day restored.

Reserve the summer of 2010 was the busiest I've been. Even then, I rarely broke guarantee. They had a knack for working me all 18 days, but keeping those 18 days less then 14 duty periods, and putting right around 70 hours of credit.
