I guess some refuse to change. I just hope we don't extend that train of thought to the whole merger. I hear all the time about how we once were the largest airline in lax after the Western merger and then we gave it up. I'll hate myself if in 20 years I'm telling some 30 year old fo about how we were once the largest carrier in msp and dtw before we gave it to swa.

I hate the challenge and response shutdown checklist too. I wish only the Fuel Levers - OFF was a challenge and response, the rest should be a silent checklist. The CA doesn't need to know that I've turned the transponder off. It is funny watching the CAs scramble for the proper callouts.

Weird, when I went thru MD-88 training, I was specifically critiqued for starting the engines that way. They wanted left hand on the fuel lever, right hand on the starter. It doesn't matter to me, I have long arms. But I have no idea how you do that if you are short.

Even if they needed to be changed, it's not like anyone would have said: "Don't do it...it will mess up this perfectly designed overhead panel!"

I agree. Making sure the engines and APU are off is key and something all CA's should and do worry about. The rest of the stuff is admin and really well below their pay grade. What is particularly funny in the 800 is the CA's response to the air conditioning panel on the shutdown checklist...they get the deer-in-the-headlights look when they look up and have to answer whether or not the packs and bleed switches are in the right positions. My response, "its right dude, don't worry about it."

Speaking of the sim session, I've never had. 1 day training event that allows me to commute in and out on the same day and not require a hotel. Anyone know any good ways to get directly from the airport to NATCO and back now that the airport is not on the way to the hotel? My commute home is reasonably tight and I don't think there's time to shuttle to the hotel and theN to the airport. Also, if anyone here has already been up there for the sim, does it seriously take 4 hours? Seems like a lot of time to me.

ARM REST .... UP
SHOULDER HARNESS...... OFF
MORNING STRECH ..... CHK

This from a 5' 6" maddog driver. It takes quite a jump shot for me to move the ailerons per the checklist as well!

I still have a hot wife though.

The 88 is no problem for the ailerons but the 90 is a whole nother issue!

BTW, was told to use the left hand on start switches right on fuel levers. Got dinged for doing it the the other way.

On the shutdown, I usually just tell him what I did. Can only imagine the fun if they ever listen to these tapes.

What moron is teaching that? If it's not in the book, it's technique.
