Yep. And remember, DAL used to have a huge DFW base. A lot of guys still live there and commute to ATL. NYC is far easier in that regard.

Yeah, a boat load of DAL guys who were once Dallas-based and still live there. Ask one of those guys what the ATL commute is like.

The missing component in the decision between NYC and ATL is what your relative seniority will be within each base/category. You may be a lineholder with a commutable schedule on the 7ER out of JFK, but on reserve or flying un commutable trips out of ATL.

With both Delta and Jet Blue as options from AUS to JFK, plus UA into EWR, the commute to NYC is doable on good weather days.

For those that are NYC based, and are sitting at a seniority of around 50%-60%, what QOL do you have as far as trips/holidays off? I'm wondering if commuting to NYC to have 50% seniority would be better than commuting to ATL w/ 80% even with the option to drive 3 hrs to get there if need be.

Is there a clean way to get from EWR to JFK? The best I can find on the interweb is a train trip with three train changes. I appreciate you broadening my understanding though. There are actually 10 trips a day from Austin to all the NYC airports. That is a lot of options! I just have to figure out how to get from one to another once I get up there.

Someone a while back posted on here some pretty in-depth info on crashpads and getting between the NYC airports. It had a lot of really good info on all the different options. You might be able to find it with some searching. I'm pretty sure it was in one of the various Delta threads.

Clean? I guess you could drive a Tesla...

As far as trains, take NJ Transit to Penn Station, then the subway or LIRR to the Air Train. 3 trains, 2 changes. It's not bad from EWR really. The LIRR is faster than the subway but a few more dollars.

Thanks! I'll but my searching cap on and get to work.

I haven't done the NYC commute in several years, but there used to be an hourly van/shuttle service called Olympic Airporter from EWR to JFK. The trip was 75-90 minutes depending on traffic and cost around $25 for crew. LGA to JFK has several options as well for around $15-$20 each way. Kew Gardens taxi and the Q Runner come to mind. There is an entire micro-economy within NYC, especially the Kew Gardens area, built around commuting airline crew.

Same exact question. GSP to NYC vs. GSP to ATL?

Based on my informal APC education, my hunch is that driving to ATL is going to be better initially (while on reserve or non-commutable trips), but once you can hold commutable lines in NYC then it would be better QOL up there. Am I in the ballpark there?

TexanDriver - I got the job and we'll be in GSP by mid-May. First round is on me, I have a lot to learn!
