No such thing as a "reasonable" place in PTC IMHO, having been here for 17 years. I did just what you said though, grabbed a cabin in Ellijay with a killer mountaintop view. The commute isn't bad 119.2 miles and the trip past ATL takes 1.5 hours, so doable.

I agree that a student's and school's performance can't be summed up by a single number on a web page but unfortunately unless you live locally and have a feel for the area, it's all an out of state shopper has to go on. Even Utah colleges are bad, I think the highest rated college is U of U and that's worse than #100 in the country. The place may as well be the middle east when it comes to education, it's a wasteland.

As for LA, I can only tolerate so much for perfect WX. It can't offset the traffic, cost, politics, or people that I'd have to deal with if I moved there. And yeah, I know you were kidding when you recommended it

Athens is great. If you have kids, look at Watkinsville/Oconee County adjacent to Athens/Clark County. It's an hour and a half to airport. There are multiple routes to the airport. If I wasn't so lazy, 25/30 minutes to the parking lot, I'd leave Coweta and move to the Athens area.

Anybody have any insight on living in PDX and commuting to SEA or SLC? Seems like it would be a pretty easy commute to SEA but would love to hear input.

Vancouver (aka "The Couve") is where a lot of pilots live to avoid Oregon's stiff income tax. Met folks that live North of the Couve, Washougal, Battleground, etc. Less than 3 hour drive to SEA. If closert to the airport there are a lot of flights between PDX and SEA, but zero experience commuting between the two so can't comment.

Traffic in Portland and across the bridges is awful.

I hear the SEA commute through PDX is very tough. DAL used to have a MD-11 base in PDX and you will always be fighting for the JS or a seat in the back.

Don't know about SLC but it would probably be similar.
