Thanks TEN!

I update it every week or so. My company is probably about to ask me to move to the Northeast (I live in the ATL area now) and I really don't want to move my family there. I know it is still very early in the hiring process and that I have always been impatient with certain things like this. I have a good bit of internal recs from DAL pilots and also a DAL EVP who is throwing my name in the hat. There is lots of competition out there that I know are way more qualified than me and who deserve it just as much and more than likely more.. What's meant to happen will happen and I need to be patient!! I have enjoyed reading the L&G thread the last 3-4 years and hope to one day be a part of the group. I don't have one person I know that has bad things to say (no job is perfect, I know) about big D and that's prob why it is so competitive for getting the call. Keep the updates coming!

For those submitting external recs (both professional/personal), are you using the airlineapps.com link through the addendums page to send the request? Are the external recs even relevant or reviewed prior to receiving an interview invite?

Close. The magic number is one, but that does not guarantee an interview - just that your application will be reviewed. DAL Ranks all of its applicants according to standardized criteria. Having at least one internal recommendation will ensure your application is pulled out of the thousands of applications and ranked sooner. The actual recommendation does not help where you score on the ranking list, but puts you to the head of the list for ranking.

The timing of your interview will be determined by how high your application is ranked. Applications without recommendations will also be ranked for competitiveness but no telling when the company will get to it.

Good Luck

Great post and great insight, thanks! Before my rec posted to airline apps I received a "fix it/clarification" email. I corrected the yes/no radio button discrepancy, and since then I haven't heard anything, but hopefully having the rec will move it up the list and they will eventually get to it. The other variable is my availability which is >8 months out, and it's anyone's guess how that plays into an email invite. I'm going to the WAI conference in a few weeks and maybe that will help as well, who knows.

How does Delta select people to interview?

Is it all based on who you know or is it mostly a point system where you get higher rankings for type ratings, pic turbine, check airman/IP, college g.p.a., etc.?

Or is it a combination of both?

It is a combination of both. DAL has thousands of applications on file. Last week I heard 9000 from someone who is involved with the process. I have also seen the 10-12K number thrown around on this and other forums - the exact number is not important.

The take-away is here is that there are thousands of applications waiting to be reviewed. DAL will review applications and break them into three groups ranked from most qualified to least qualified. Right now DAL is interviewing from the most qualified pile. At some future time they may start interviewing from the next most qualified pool.

A recommendation from a DAL Pilot will only ensure that your application is ranked. Once it is ranked it depends on how it was scored. If it ends up in the most competitive pool of applications you willed be called sooner than if it was in the next competitive pool of applications.

To sum it up. Thousands of application on file. A DAL recommendation will get your application pulled out and ranked. How soon you get called depends on how your application was ranked. I don't believe that a DAL recommendation will improve your ranking, but am not 100% positive about that.

Good luck guys.

A FO here at Atlanta's Sweatiest Airline (and this time around we dont seem to be getting many invites) has an interview scheduled in the next month or two. He is a nice guy, decent pilot, and I have absolutely nothing negative to say about him. But to say that he is among the MOST qualified is absurd. Under 30, very little flying experience pre-121 and 6 or 7 years as an RJ FO. His qualifications would seem to put him in the lower tranches, but his connections got him an interview. FWIW
