I must apologize. I thought you were saying that they were hiring more than DAL was.

So this again leads me to say whoGAS about any of this? This is not our problem. (I am not even convinced it even IS a problem) But if you and Mesabah want to wrap yourselves around the axle about this, I will politely decline to participate. I would rather fix myself a cocktail with a little umbrella in it and watch the show. (The DCI show)

I have been wondering the same thing. You expressed it much better than I could have.

Well, I don't fly very much, work at a computer all day mostly. I have three screens, the first two screens are work, the third is multiple forums. Just calling the industry as I see. If you knew me, and my background you would understand. My family has been in aviation since the Wright brothers days. My posts are not butthurt, they simply sound that way because it's in text, and not me speaking to you.

You get an extra 5 years as an ER captain. I get an extra 5 years as a reserve narrowobody FO. I will retire at 65 and have the same number of years as a CA as I would have had, had the retirement age stayed at 60.

Everyone has had some sort of crap sandwich the last 10 years. I didn't lose my retirement, you did. You didn't get an extra 5 years on reserve as a narrowbody FO, I did. Newhires getting hired right now will be captains in 7 years and retire with millions of dollars so they all suck the most.

Walk away where though? Other than SKYW's pathetic mainline wanna be IndyAir2.0 fantasy, where are they going to go? CPZ isn't going anywhere. They just snapped up an RFP that they may or may not be able to staff. If they can staff it, the only reason is the DL flow that is attracting applicants for the massive guaranteed attrition, with the additional benefit of a guaranteed interview and growth, yet the growth depends on controlling the attrition.

GoJets has been pretty quiet through all of this though. Makes you wonder what's going on there.

But not everyone had some sort of crap sandwich, and that's the rub. The guys who were approaching 60 when the rule changed, and in that sweet spot we all look forward to, where you're senior on your retirement equipment flying STR every Tuesday, they got a bonus 5 years. The rest of us stagnated, or actually went backwards, for 5 years.

But at least we have 117 to keep us rested and refreshed now.

A lot of new hires right now spent their extra 5 years in an rj. The lucky ones are the guys getting hired in their mid 20's who never even had to fly as a captain.

Again, the woe is me stuff is getting tiring. You wanna have a Johnson measuring contest? I spent almost 6 years throwing switches on the 727. I was fortunate. Some of my contemporaries were furloughed that entire time. I'm not complaining about any of that mind you, I have had a pretty blessed career, but everytime I see guys bringing up that extra 5 year crap it just gets a little under my skin. Yes, we all had a bite of a not so tasty sandwich. Stop telling everybody how bad yours was. (And this is not aimed at you in particular)
