No, apparently a flaw in the system. He was hired by DAL and then told two months later he'd failed the psych review board. He then immediately interviewed and was hired by AA. He retired yesterday from the USAF and VP Biden pinned him with several medals and said goodbye personally. How does DAL explain that? Good enough to fly for the First Lady and the VP but can't fly pax to Disneyword?
Super guy! Delta's loss is American's gain. We lost a good one. Why? We'll never know.

In the past...I did not worry about it. I did learn a lot and have not ever have a problem again. In the past you had the opportunity to explain what you learned. These days of a computer scoring and ranking you based on s set of parameters set by HR...I'm starting to fear that this mistake 28 years ago will keep me at the bottom of the pile for some time to come. I can't accept responsibility and tell what I learned if you don't get the chance. Obviously with my times........I don't have "years" to wait......
I was with my last carrier for 25 years..it's not easy starting over. I will keep the faith.
Thanks for the encouragement.

I'm sorry, but if I made a mistake 28 years ago, I'm not even sure I would put it on the application. I would get a full copy of my FAA records. If it's not in there, this violation wouldn't go on my application. 28 years is a long time. How do you even remember that far back?

When I interviewed, I disclosed the one traffic ticket I had on record. When they asked if that was all, I admitted to a speeding ticket from 10 years prior that wasn't on any of my records because it was out of state. They still make me "pencil it in" the printed application and initial. With something this big on the line, don't lie.

If there is a record of a violation, DUI, under age drinking, etc. put it on your application. If HR finds out that you did not disclose a violation you can forget about gaining employment.
At interview preps I've had clients tell me that they have been arrested for DUI, BUI, minor in possession of alcohol, petty theft on other offenses. The key to being successful is how you present the scenario to the recruiters.

I never had any intention of not answering honestly. You can never know for sure what shows up on a background check.
I have always accepted responsibility for my actions, the reason for my post was to try and get a feel in this current hiring environment how this might play out for me. I completely understand the number of qualified applicants must be sorted out in some manner and I was hoping for a little insight to see if anyone has recently been interviewed with a past violation. From other info I know that my flight times, and check airman experience would score well....but my age (over 50) and violation...may offset those.
Since my company recently shut down, I'm in need of a job soon. I'm looking at all options and want the best possible intel so I can make some hard decisions.
Thanks for all the input.....if anyone gets an additional info that would be helpful...I will be happy for it.
Good luck to everyone.

I'm sorry but this is really bad advice. The number one core value at Delta Air Lines is honesty. We all make mistakes in life, personally and professionally. What Delta AND other airlines are looking for is honesty in your application and what you say at the interview. If you made a mistake, take responsibility for your mistake. Don't try to hide it.

Mach1;
I'm guessing you were at world. From my limited perspective meeting world pilots on the road and knowing several former world guys at DAL, your group passes the "good dude" check with flying colors. Personally, I hope you get an interview sooner rather than later.

I dont know the "true" answer to that, but I do know we have pilots on the seniority list with violations. I can give you a few good recommendations though:
1) Dont quit applying
2) Keep on updating, every 30 days (at least)
3) Keep your head up, dont worry about who is getting hired or who isn't. Your time will come.
4) Make sure all your eyes are dotted and tees crossed. Attention to detail is extremely necessary for a high time and experienced pilot like yourself.
5) Make sure you play the game and admit to your fault and what you have done to correct the issue. What did you learn from it?
6) LASTLY, and most importantly, make sure you network and try to meet or find a pilot that will check your status.
You need to UPDATE, UPDATE, UPDATE.

I believe in honesty and self-disclosure. My point is 28 years is a really long time. 28 years ago, i was in preschool. I can't even remember any of my high school teachers yet alone whether I got into any trouble. I know I've filled out some asaps in my 10 year career. Can't remember why though. It's hard to disclose something you can't remember.
Or too many bong hits in college? That might explain all the ASAPs too!
I'm in my mid fifties and I can remember all the way back to my 3rd grade teacher, Miss Roys, she was HOT!
