The truth shall set you free, UPT grads are still getting RPAs if no jets available, but numbers are low. Plus UPT grads incur a 10 yr commitment, so they aren't leaving AF anytime soon.
This pipeline has nothing to do with UPT, this is a separate program.

Also might I add that many dudes are just waiting for the hiring too start before they punch. Many are getting pretty frustrated with the ol'mil and looking for the airlines......once hiring begins I would expect many to punch as soon as they can....

Many of us have already punched and are flying at the regionals hoping 121 time will strengthen our resumes... Doing everything possible to be in the front if this wave.

This is absolutely true!
Whoever thinks that they can just coast through better learn how to pull their weight.
That's the mood in the office anyway.

Amen! Myself and a handful of my peers in the Navy have already punched out. Some made the transition already to one of the majors. The rest of us are treading water in a variety of jobs. A week doesn't go by that I am not contacted by someone in Naval Aviation that is planning on getting out and is working to set themselves up with all their quals etc for the airlines. "Hey bro, what's the gouge on ......" Where I work, a lot of varying background military guys, and I was NOT surprised to see how many of us were burnt out and disillusioned (to a degree) with the military for a wide variety of reasons. I wonder what the detailera and placement officers in Millington are going to do if hiring ever begins on earnest, there will be quite a few Naval Officer resignations in those years (and I am sure in the rest of the Military also).

Awesome

...love it!

Totally true though, they will loophole these next 300-500 to get the mix they want. Count on it.

(reason I say 500 is that the need and hiring usually ends up being more than they initially say)

These articles are dated already. We have been requalling guys in the T-1 for about a year now. They leave the UAV and come to us for refresher training before they go onto their real airplane assignment. I talked to one of our students this morning about the latest in the drone world.
-- Very very few students are getting RPA/UAVs out of UPT.
-- Most are coming through the dedicated pipeline. These guys will never be pilots. Some are old navigators.
-- When production through the pipeline can't meet the demand, they pull major weapon system guys who already have experienced flight time into the drone world.

As far as the ten year commitment... That started in 2000. Plenty of pilots have completed their commitment and are eagerly waiting employment as soon as someone will hire them. I know at my base alone, we have over 25 guys, that I know of, that are waiting for a call. Multiply that by the plethora of US military bases throughout the world and you have a very large number of highly qualified, combat tested, experienced pilots patiently waiting their turn.

Not to mention mil guys who have masters degrees and 121 time at other carriers (non smurf jet) and have a lot of networking from their guard/reserve bubbas.

A lot of good competion out there!

They may have stopped pulling UPT students into the RPA community, but rated pilots still get pulled there. Now that the AD Air Force is divesting their legacy C-130 fleet, quite a few former C-130H pilots are being sent to RPA assignments. If I had to guess, about a quarter of them will head to the MQ world, the rest going to AFSOC, white jets and a smaller number transitioning to other AMC airplanes (C-17, C-130J, etc).

Is this a Delta hiring thread or a Mil career strategic planning thread?
