My resume in my military service was very similar to yours. I don't think anyone is saying that new hires are 'inept' or 'dangerous.' I'm a 2001 hire. What I think people are saying, and I concur completely, is that the flying and culture is 'different.' Don't be surprised if your first few captains are overly suspicious of you and your abilities. I guarantee you that your first few push backs will rattle your military mind.
It would be unwise not to expect just that.

My first pushback ever out of JFK, I was giving FO IOE on the 330. It was as memorable as my first cat shot off the ship.
Another time, I was giving a new 330 CA OE from DTW to HNL. He had been at North Central, Republic and NWA for 30 years flying Convairs, DC9's and A320's. As we coasted out off the coast of CA, he said "I've never been this far west in a airplane" Later,after logging in to CPDLC he could not accept the fact that we did not have to "talk" to anyone for the next 3 hrs. After climbing to FL400, he stated that he had never been that high (altitude) in a jet.
My point is that no matter what your background, experience level or ability is, some things are just "new"

Everyone is bidding off of it because it is supposedly a shrinking fleet and it is probably one of the worst fleets to be junior on especially in NYC. There is a reason why there are unbid positions on the ER.

The fleet is not scheduled to be dead until 2027. There is a reduction in the domestic flying until we reach 74 domestic 757's. The fleet will be stable for 3 to 4 years after that. Most of the openings are FO's upgrading to CA.

And the reason why nobody will bid into those opening is because the fleet is shrinking and nobody wants to be junior on a shrinking fleet, especially the ER. Look at the trips the junior guys get, especially in NYC. No thanks.
